Our next fundraising event is the “Build-a-Gym 5K” on June 15, 2024, in Federalsburg, MD. Your monetary or in-kind contribution will help us expand our reach, enhance program effectiveness, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of community members. Move4Life is a 100% volunteer-led and operated NPO. We guarantee any monetary donations towards the Build-a-Gym fund will be utilized dollar-for-dollar towards the cause.
Our Mission: We seek to transform the lives of economically disadvantaged beneficiaries by enabling each individual to pursue movement and achieve physical and mental well-being through events, programs, and funding. Move4Life Fund Inc. is a registered non-profit organization with the State of Maryland and IRS. Our Tax ID Number is 85-4028118. We formed in 2020 for one specific purpose: to improve the lives of low-income people by providing financial assistance so every individual can engage in high-quality fitness and wellness programs. There is no one-size-fits-all plan regarding our mental and physical well-being, and we believe that for our beneficiaries as well.
Our Goal: is to raise $20,000 to outfit a local activity center with gym equipment (dumbbells, barbells, yoga mats, universal equipment, etc.) and facilitate volunteer coaches for small group-led classes. The success of our initiatives relies heavily on the support of businesses like yours. To accomplish this properly, Move4Life established a private/public partnership with the Township of Federalsburg, Maryland.
Why? Geographic Isolation: Rural communities are often geographically isolated, making accessing healthcare and fitness services difficult. This isolation can exacerbate health disparities, particularly for individuals with limited mobility or transportation options. The Township of Federalsburg, Maryland, does not have a publicly available fitness facility within its township boundaries. The cost to provide transportation pay for memberships to the closest nearby gym is significantly higher than establishing a local activity center for the community, managed by the community. It would be free of charge to residents.
- For example, 6,343 citizens who live in Zip Code 21632 would have access to the local activity center. The monthly cost to the nearest gym ten miles away is $25 per person per month. If 5% or 317 citizens were to attend such a gym regularly, the cost would be $7,928 for one month, and that does not include transportation fees. Spread that out over 12 months, and that cost would be $95,145 per year.
- Our private/public partnership approach is much more affordable and sustainable for a community like Federalsburg. We have arranged for volunteer coaches to provide small-group-led classes for weight training, yoga, and running clubs. Applying the same 5% or 317 citizens, the $20,000 spent is maximized across the same-sized community population. We estimate the monthly cost per person would be $5.25 per person per month.
Our Impact is GROWING: In 2021, Move4Life raised funds for three six-month gym scholarships in Columbia, MD. In 2022, Move4Life raised funds to host Kettlebell fitness classes for twelve low-income single mothers who sought to improve their fitness and health. In 2023, Move4Life’s impact expanded 1) We partnered with the Township of Federalsburg to start our Build-a-Gym fund, and 2) we partnered with Howard Community College to fund three two thousand dollar scholarships to the Howard P.R.I.D.E. program for the fall 2024 school year. In 2024, completing and implementing our Build-a-Gym fund will impact thousands of people in the Federalsburg Township and surrounding communities.
