Description

The #BeAFriend Anti-Bullying 5k Color Fun Run/Walk is a family-fun race for participants of all ages & speeds! October is National Bullying Prevention Month and we believe that bullying ends with YOU! Bullying can leave deep emotional scars that last a lifetime. It is a serious issue that occurs throughout our schools every day and without interventions bullying can cause an increase in absenteeism, a decline in academic performance, decreased confidence, self-harm, drug & alcohol abuse and school violence, to name a few.

The #BeAFriend Anti-Bullying 5k Color Fun Run/Walk is the first annual event locally, held during National Bullying Prevention month. The goal of the event is to promote awareness about bullying and show support for those who have been bullied, uniting the community in a campaign to keep all youth safe from bullying, as well as raise money to support our EmpowerU Mentoring Program. There will be opportunities to have fun and learn more about bullying, its effects and how to help put a stop to it. We believe that in order to end bullying, an entire community must work together towards a solution, hope to see you there!

ABOUT RAISING BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES

Raising Beautiful Butterflies, Inc. ("RBB"),  founded in 2017 and established as a 501c3 organization in 2019.  The organization was started to serve girls between the ages 4-21 who are exhibiting at risk behaviors that could take a negative effect on their lives.  At RBB, we have a passion and drive to introduce young girls to Christian values in a way they can understand and digest, so they can walk passionately and boldly in who God has created them to be and value their whole selves.  We are dedicated to empowering a generation of young queens,  to be bold,  authentic leaders in their lives,  school and communities by transforming self-doubt into self-love through dialogue about things that matter Every day. Young queens are bombarded with messages in the media that attack what she is NOT and we work every day to help her love the skin SHE IS IN and who SHE IS; to see that in herself and inspire that in others.

WEATHER POLICY

The #BeAFriend Anti-Bullying Kids 5k Color Fun Run/Walk does not get cancelled due to rain.

NOTE: No refunds are given if race is cancelled. All proceeds benefit the Raising Beautiful Butterflies EmpowerU Mentoring Program.

Raising Beautiful Butterflies puts the safety of its participants, spectators, and volunteers first. Dangerous weather conditions pose a unique challenge to an event therefore we have adopted the following Inclement Weather Policy:

Rain - The event will NOT be cancelled due to rain alone unless the downpour is such that athletes and volunteers lose visibility or there is a threat of flash flooding, making situations unsafe. If this occurs we will wait until the rain subsides and follow the same procedure listed for lightning conditions (minus the 30 minute rule). Participants will be informed of such a change via announcements on race morning. Information will also be available on our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter pages, and also by email.

Lightning – In the event of lightning the race will be postponed by 30 minutes every time lightning is spotted and thunder is heard within 6 miles of the event. Please note that every time lightning strikes and thunder is heard within 6 miles of any part of the race course, we must restart the timing of 30 minutes increments.

Tornado Warning – If at anytime before (race morning close to start time) or during the event, a tornado warning is issued, the race will be cancelled.

On Course Cancellation – If the race is canceled due to storms (lightning and/or excessive rain) or tornado warnings while it is in progress we will do everything in our power to alert everyone on the course. Race officials will immediately communicate with staff/volunteers, who will immediately begin doing all we can to warn participants and direct them to safety. We will do everything in our power to assist those who are still on course. If you see lightening during the race, you should seek immediate shelter via open stores, buildings, garages, homes and/or any other means of protection from the dangerous conditions. If it gets bad and we are not there to help you off the course please do everything you can to keep yourself safe and take shelter.

Please be aware that if weather conditions prevent race staff and volunteers from completing set up in a timely manner, the race could also be delayed for these reasons.

If the need for a cancellation arises, please be reminded that there will be no refunds of registration fees.
