The Fizzy 5k Fundraising Event (Draft)

A fun filled event involving you, five of your friends, and a six-pack of soda!

Teams of six runners will complete a 5k relay race that is split into six equal sections, each section measuring .53 miles, with one team member running one corresponding segment of the race (team members will decide which order they wish to run in). When the race begins, instead of a baton, the first runner of each team will carry a six-pack of soda cans for the duration of their leg of the relay, shaking up the cans as they go. When they reach the end of their section, the runner will then drink an entire can of foamy soda before passing the six-pack off to the next member of their team. This will continue with each runner until the end of the race, when the final team member drinks the last can of soda and crosses the finish line.

If runners don’t have a full team of six, that’s fine! Teams of one to five are welcome to pre-register as part of a random relay, where they will be paired with other incomplete teams to create teams of six and run the 5k relay race.

Want to run the whole 5k by yourself? That’s also an option! Runners can sign up to run the entire 5k solo, without participating in the relay race. This would allow participants to enjoy running the entire length of the race, but without carrying any soda cans.

Children may participate in the event as well! Children will individually run a specified distance around the racetrack carrying a small, empty plastic bottle. Each bottle will have equally distanced black rings drawn around the outside. While the children run, they will have to stop at separate fill stations, where they must have their bottle filled to the top of the corresponding line by a volunteer. The first child in each age group to fully fill their bottle and cross the finish line will be the winner.

After both races have been completed, race participants and spectators alike are welcome to stick around and continue having fun! Enjoy food and beverages provided by our vendors, who will be selling their products for the entirety of the event, and don’t miss a chance to buy exclusive race merchandise. There will even be prizes awarded after the races, so participants are encouraged to stay and have fun!

This event is untimed and designed for everyone involved to have as much fun as possible. Walk, run, dance – team members can complete the race any way they’d like, as long as they empty their six-pack. We only have one piece of advice: Watch out for the soda fizz!
