The Cherokee Runners Club was officially founded at an informal meeting held at the Cherokee Tribal Grounds Coffee Shop by several local runners on March 5, 2010. Although many area runners, from "amateur" to "elite," had been enjoying the superb climate and terrain of Tribal lands for years, they seldom ran as an organized group, and there was little to no good informative network of communication. At the initial meeting, the so-called "founding members" discovered that there are many advantages to even a loose organization. Runners began to meet up at local surrounding 5K races forming friendships and to run regularly with one another, as well as with visitors to Cherokee. To this day, the Club welcomes runners, friends of runners, visitors, beginning runners and walkers of all levels.
