Greetings, Public Radio racers!
We are so excited to be hosting you for our 2nd annual fundraiser footrace for Public Radio. We are delighted that we already have almost 100 entrants for this special event and are so grateful for your support and look forward to thanking you in person this Saturday.
Here are a few things of note to help you along the way on race morning...
1. The race starts at 7:30am sharp and packet pickup and race day registration is from 6:30-7:15 at the Shelter at the top of the big parking area at Towe Park (when you enter the park you will go right, up the big hill). Please park up near the shelter and NOT down along the course.
2. There will be bathrooms at the shelter.
3. The race starting line is actually just a short walk away from the shelter, at the top of the hill in front of the Lewis and Clark museum building. The course runs down the hill and picks up the river path at about a quarter mile into the race. It will then follow the flat path along the Rivanna, under Free Bridge and out to about 1.6 miles, where it will turnaround and return back along the same path again. It will finish at the bottom of the steep Lewis and Clark hill. The course will be well marked and we will have Dr. Wilder's medical team and a water station at 1.1, 2.3 and the finish. The course will be marked with arrows and I will have a mile marker at the half, the 1 and 2 mile spots. The surface is a mix of about 35% pavement and 65% soft surface.
4. VERY IMPORTANT: Because the course is NARROW in certain sections, especially under Free Bridge, we ask that you all be EXTRA cautious about always staying to your RIGHT, unless passing, along the entire length of the river path. Please remember that NO STROLLERS or DOGS are allowed in the race. Thanks!
Our Ragged Mountain family has really enjoyed partnering with Matt Bingay and all of our friends at WMRA. I'd also like to thank Leah Connor, Cathy Singleton, Scott Wiseman, Nicole Brimer, Dr. Wilder, and all of our stalwart Charlottesville Track Club team, who will be helping on race day and to all of our WMRA and community volunteers. Plus a big thank you to our friends at Towe Park and to our main sponsor, Wilkinson Wealth Management.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday morning for this celebration of Public Radio!
