A staggering 50% of children under the age of five live in poverty in Syracuse, NY. The COVID-19 health crisis and subsequent economic fallout have deeply and negatively impacted the lives of these children. They need our help more than ever.
DIAPERS CANNOT BE BOUGHT WITH WIC OR SNAP
Many parents have recently lost their jobs and rely on public assistance. Diapers are expensive, yet they are a basic need for babies. Sadly, diapers are not included in government safety net programs, even during this worldwide emergency. Because of this, many low-income families often have to choose between buying diapers or food.
FAMILIES CAN’T FIND DIAPERS
We have all seen the empty shelves at the grocery store this year, and we hear from retailers that they are struggling to keep up with consumer demand. The families we serve are financially unable to stock up on diapers even when they are readily available. The low diaper supply has made it more difficult for many families to buy what they need.
