I'm running the Rock 'n Race 5K on May 22nd as a member of Teddy's Team in honor of Ted Clark who we knew and loved as a devoted husband, father, colleague, and beast on the mountain bike. Ted died far too young from cancer and Teddy's Team assembles each year in his honor to help those in need through the Payson Center for Cancer Care. This year, I will run in memory of and in honor of Jody Connor (career mentor, friend, and savior of NH lakes), Lesli Brooks (UMASS dorm and apartment co-dweller and dear friend), Denise Tremblay (mother in-law, educator, nature and science lover), and Maxwell Millard (friend who felt more like family, role model, and one of the finest gentlemen you could ever know) who all died from cancer and had HUGE influences upon my life and career. Not a day goes by when I don't think of all of them and apply lessons learned from spending time with each of them. I am also racing this year in support of loved ones that are living with cancer each and every day. I am in awe of their strength, attitudes, and the love and care they convey and share with everyone they meet regardless of their diagnosis and how they might be feeling on any given day. True heroes among us.
If you would be so kind as to make a donation toward the Payson Center for Cancer Care in any amount, I will add the name of someone you would like to honor onto my race shirt for this event and "carry" them with me over the course and across the finish line. I hope you consider doing that as it would be a great honor to have them with me at this important event that raises nearly 50% of the operating costs for the cancer center each year. YOU can be a part of that by donating today.
The HOPE Resource Center at Concord Hospital Payson Center for Cancer Care offers important services to cancer patients and their families through experts who offer guidance, information, and access to support programs for people affected by cancer (often at no charge). These include complementary services such as Reiki; exercise, and yoga; nutritional and financial counseling; spiritual care; and access to educational events and the Anticancer Lifestyle Program. Supportive services are available through Payson Center for Cancer Care, as well as through community partners and resources.
Rock 'N Race is proud to provide more than 50 percent of the funding for programs and services of the Payson Center for Cancer Care HOPE Resource Center through our annual Rock ‘n Race, which attracts 4,000 runners and walkers. Won't you join us in supporting our friends and family members living with cancer?
