McHenry County College opened its doors in 1968 and has grown into a comprehensive community college providing credit, non-credit, educational training opportunities and community events.  The school is fully accredited by the North Central Association.

The institution’s mission is focused on learning with student success the goal. It was nominated for 2014 and 2015 Bellwether Award for community college instruction, planning, governance and workforce development. In addition, the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program named McHenry County College as one of the top150 community colleges in the country.
