Joe believes in being an active member of the community and is a member of The Mission Community Church, He has served on a number of local agency boards such as:
Options: serving adults with disabilities for over 10 years as a board member and chairman of the construction committee that built “Safe Haven” which is a hurricane evacuation building for adults with disabilities

As President of the Hammond Rotary Club, he led the renovation projects for the Council on Aging buildings in Hammond and Kentwood and help procure over $75,000 in renovations at no cost to the Council on Aging organization.
 
He also started a program that goes into area schools and helps to educate 8th-grade students on real-life decision-making skills such as why it is so important for them to graduate high school and extend their education beyond high school.
During the recent flooding on the Northshore area, Joe helped organized 2 neighborhoods with sandbagging operations to assist people in protecting their homes from rising waters.
Joe believes that everyone should be engaged in serving their community. When he is not volunteering or serving in the community, he enjoys time with his wife Elaine, their children, traveling, visiting with friends and fishing.
