Dazzle Dash Virtual Race

Fri March 13 - Sat April 4 Media, PA 19063 US

Dazzle Dash & Family Fun Day alternative plans for Coronavirus containment

As we remain ever vigilant about our obligations to our community to mitigate the risk of passing COVID-19, I write to inform you of changes to our Dazzle Dash & Family Fun Day event. As a socially responsible school, we have re-imagined this public event to make it a safer experience for our community. Join us for a VIRTUAL RUN promoting mindful living! Proceeds underwrite primary education at MPFS, in support of Meaningful Learning for a Purposeful Life.  Thank you for your support.

What is a Virtual Race?
Virtual races are events (runs/walks) that can be completed by participants anywhere over a range of time. This will allow our runners to participate in our race and the event you're registered for when we cannot physically run together (3-mile run, 1.5-mile walk, relay, Dazzle kids 75-yard dash or preschool 50-yard dash). This now makes treadmill participation an option! You simply run the distance on your own, and report your results.  You can do it from now up until the end of the day on April 4th. Then upload your “race” and times to our dedicated Facebook page with a screenshot from your favorite app or just upload selfies.

Please submit your reply below on or before Tuesday, March 17th.

Here Are Your Options:

Virtual races happen all the time and allow you to join the fun without the crowds. You simply run the distance on your own, and report your results. Visit the MPFS website to learn how! mpfs.org/dazzledash

All proceeds underwrite primary education at MPFS. Whether you choose to run in the Virtual Race or not your registration fee helps offset the cost of the unrealized event and impacts the education of MPFS students. You understand that events are expensive, even when canceled or altered, and you want us to keep your registration fees to help cover our costs.

At the same time, your gift will serve as an investment in the future, underwriting a unique philosophy of education that cultivates the characters and intellects of young people and calls them to lives of inquiry, integrity, and purpose. As an independent school, Media-Providence Friends has the freedom to develop and employ programming that reflects the latest research about how children best learn, and to infuse it with values that teach our students what it means to be a part of a global community. This independence has an economic aspect as well: we are entirely self-funded.

We deeply appreciate your generosity and look forward to seeing you at an event soon. Thank you for your support!

Dazzle Dash Alternative Plans for Coronavirus Containment
As we remain ever vigilant about our obligations to our community to mitigate the risk of passing COVID-19, we have made changes to our Dazzle Dash & Family Fun Day event. As a socially responsible school, we have re-imagined this public event to make it a safer experience for our community. See Governor Wolf's guidelines within his order.

If you are already registered, please join us for a VIRTUAL RACE promoting mindful living or if you haven't sign up now for a virtual race! Proceeds underwrite primary education at MPFS, in support of Meaningful Learning for a Purposeful Life.  Thank you for your support.

According to the Center's for Disease Control (CDC) physical activity is one of the MOST important things you can do for your health. The immediate effects of being active lead to improved thinking or cognition, and reduced short-term feelings of anxiety. Regular physical activity can also reduce your risk of depression and anxiety and help you sleep better. According to the state, you may engage in outdoor activity, such as walking, hiking or running if you maintain social distancing.

What is a Virtual Race?
Virtual races are events (runs/walks) that can be completed by participants anywhere over a range of time. This will allow our runners to participate in our race when we cannot physically run together. This now makes treadmill participation an option! You can complete your run from now up until the end of the day on April 4th.

In addition, we have designed many of the physical education activities posted for your child(ren) so that they can be done with an adult or as a family. One in particular we wanted to point our is the MPFS Mileage Log! Using the log, you set a goal (5k, 10k, half marathon or marathon) with your child for walking, jogging, running or biking and then keep track of your progress in quarter mile increments. We hope you will join us in trying to stay active during these unprecedented times! Please contact T. Ryan if you have any questions about the Mileage Log.

So get active and stay healthy! Then upload your photos or videos of your activity to our dedicated Facebook page with this hashtag #viritualdazzledash.

Action Needed:
If you're already registered for Dazzle Dash, please submit your reply to the email sent through RUNSIGNUP by Tuesday, April 2nd. For all who registered by 3-12-20, you will still receive a free race t-shirt.

As an independent school since 1876, MPFS has the freedom to develop and employ programming that reflects the latest research about how children best learn, and to infuse it with values that teach our students what it means to be a part of a global community. This independence has an economic aspect as well: we are entirely self-funded. Our ability to provide the best experience for students has been due, largely, to the philanthropic contributions of our community. This tradition of giving has enabled the school to sustain its mission: providing a transformational education whose end product is critical thinkers who approach life with optimism, integrity, curiosity, and compassion. At MPFS this means Meaningful Learning for a Purposeful Life.

WHY SUPPORT PRIMARY EDUCATION

EDUCATION IS NOT A SPRINT, IT’S A MARATHON. Your commitment to go the distance for primary education helps MPFS sustain an environment where students have been able to grow, explore, and learn for 143 years. Your support is important because a child's first experiences at school set the tone for how they feel about learning for the rest of their lives.

GREAT THINGS TAKE YEARS TO BUILD. The educational experience in a child's formative years is vital. It is when children develop the habits of mind and body that they will carry with them throughout their lives. A pre-school, elementary, and middle school education needs to be more than just learning basic reading, writing, and math. It should also be about going the distance to feed and satisfy every student's curiosity, instilling a life-long love of learning, helping them find their passion, challenging them to think outside the box, and accomplishing things they don’t think are possible.

THERE IS NO IMPACT WITHOUT ACTION. Your participation in and gift towards the Dazzle Dash and Family Fun Day makes possible an education that provides the vital components of a child's development, all the while preparing them with critical thinking skills they need to thrive in an evolving world, and fostering the Friends values of respect and appreciation for other people and other points of view. Developing the agility to navigate inevitable roadblocks is part of the route. These periods won’t last forever but are essential in the process of continuous revelation. Truth keeps unfolding if we are open to new information.

GO THE DISTANCE. We expect our students to leave here as capable life-long learners prepared with the skills needed to succeed in whatever field they choose, and with a desire to make a difference in the world. I ask you to leap into action at the Dazzle Dash and fuel the support needed for a successful school year. We thank you in advance for your commitment, thoughtfulness, and generosity towards our students’ Meaningful Learning for a Purposeful Life
