Description

Keep the tradition of running and walking the hills of Vestavia for charity alive with the Southminster Scamper! 

The 5th Annual Southminster Scamper will benefit First Light Women and Children's Shelter and Southminster Day School. First Light is a Center for Homeless Women and Children located in the heart of downtown Birmingham. It offers the only emergency shelter accepting homeless women and families 24 hours a day in the area. (www.firstlightshelter.org) Southminster Day School aims to give children of the community a quality foundational education in their early formative years in a Christian atmosphere. The Course: The Southminster Scamper is back for the 5th year! The Southminster Scamper 5K and Fun Run starts and finishes at Southminster Presbyterian Church/Southminster Day School. The 5K kicks off the event with a cowbell start at 8:00 am. This course weaves through the neighborhood behind the church. The Fun Run begins with a cowbell start at 9:30 am. This course heads down the back drive to Vestavia West Elementary and back.

Pets and Strollers at the Race: Pets are welcome to participate! All pets much be kept on leash. Please clean up after your pet. The actions of the pet are the responsibility of the owner/caretaker. We allow strollers at this event. If you are participating with a stroller and/or children, we ask that you keep your children with you at all times. For your child's safety, we ask that the child stays in the stroller until crossing the finish line.  

Finisher's Medals: Each 5K finishers will receive a custom made prize and each Fun Run finisher will receive a finisher's medal. 

Awards: Southminster Scamper awards will be given to the Top 5K Overall Male and Female and top Male and Female in each age group. (Age Groups: Under 18, 18-30, 31-45, 46-60, and over 60. 

Kid Zone and Vendor Booths: Bring your whole family out to enjoy the Southminster Scamper. While the kids enjoy free face painting, inflatables, and games, adults can enjoy our wonderful vendor booths. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to find out more on our vendors.

Warm-up: Heather Benoit with Healthyish with Heather will lead the official 5K warm-up and is a Southminster Scamper Sponsor. Ms. Leah will lead a fun, silly warm-up for our Fun Run participants. 

Packet pick up information: Late registration and packet pick up will be Friday, March 17th 11 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 18th 7 a.m.-7:45 a.m. for 5K and until 9am for Fun Run

Cancellation Statement: There are no refunds for registration fees. This event will occur rain or shine, warm or cold. We reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. In that event, there will be no refunds, rather, your entry fee will be used as a donation to towards the organizations the Southminster Scamper benefits.

9:00 a.m.- Awards Ceremony for 5K/Fun Run Registration Closes

9:20 a.m.- Warm-up Stretches with Mrs. Leah and Fun Run begins

10:30 a.m.- Raffle Drawing

Enjoy vendors and kid activities from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. 

The Southminster Scamper co-hosted by Southminster Presbyterian Church and Southminster Day School is dedicated to supporting First Light Women and Children's Shelter and Southminster Day School.
