Description

The 2018 Foot Pursuit 5K/10K is presented by the Sierra Vista Police Officers' Association. The Foot Pursuit is Sierra Vista's largest running race, but it's not just a running race, it's a community event that brings citizens shoulder-to-shoulder with local law enforcement professionals with the like-minded goal of getting healthy and having a lot of fun!  Together with our partners, the Lawley AutomotiveLegacy Foundation of Southeast Arizona, Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative, Culver's, Canyon Vista Medical Center, Huachuca Lodge #28 of the Fraternal Order of Police, Target, Lowe's, and DJ V with Urban Entertainment, this year's event will be bigger and better than ever!!

The Foot Pursuit is comprised of 5K and 10K running races, a 2-mile non-competitive fun run/walk, and a free kid's race.

Since this year's event is a couple of days before Halloween, we strongly encourage all participants to wear a costume. For those of you who have participated in our race in the past, you know that we give GREAT prizes for BEST COSTUME!!

We will again be offering performance tech tees in men's and women's specific styles/sizes for all 10K, 5K, and 2 mile participants who register by October 12th. We will try to accommodate participants who register after October 12th, but no guarantees.

All events start and finish at the Huachuca Mountain Elementary School.  Sections of both the 5K course and 10K course follow the scenic Garden Canyon Linear Park Trail, which is a singletrack dirt trail that is not suitable for pets or strollers.  As a result, pets or strollers are prohibited in the running race.

SVPOA Charitable Projects

The Sierra Vista Police Officers' Association (SVPOA) is an organization comprised of employees of the Sierra Vista Police Department. The members of the organization consist of police officers, detectives, and lower level management employees like police corporals and sergeants.

This mission of the SVPOA is to protect our member’s rights through professional and legal services insuring their wellbeing in matters that affect their work and private lives. Our mission is also to serve the citizens of Sierra Vista by conducting activities and fostering relationships through various fundraising and charitable functions.

SVPOA Charities is currently managed by the same board as the SVPOA, but the organization is set up so that members of the community, other than police officers, can also participate.  None of the SVPOA board positions are paid. Most of the money that we raise goes directly into our charitable activities.

The Christmas with A Cop program was the inaugural or flagship program that led to the formation of SVPOA Charities organization. The Christmas with A Cop program was started in 2010 in an effort to assist under privileged children within our community. This program has grown in each year of existence. Last year’s event was the largest to date, assisting 126 kids. The children experience a fun morning with police officers, Santa Claus and numerous volunteers and organizations (see video below).

SVPOA Charities has extended its support to the community by supporting the local Forgasch House, members of the local Soccer Association, Boy Scouts and members of the local Girls Softball league. We also contribute to the 100 Club of Arizona, the Fisher House Foundation and the Pat Tillman Foundation.

SVPOA Charities host an annual golf tournament and other smaller events to raise money throughout the year. The events assist us in meeting our mission as well as our goals and objects for the organization.
