The gentle out-and-back Ridge Trail at Glen Deven Ranch just south of Garrapata State Park overlooks Highway 1, offering beautiful scenic views of the Big Sur coastline and iconic hills. Parking and the trailhead begin at the Main House (bathrooms offered inside; please remove your shoes). Select either a morning or afternoon access time, pack a snack and some water, and enjoy the peace and quiet of this majestic property!

Should you choose to race the Ridge Trail for time, please record your run from the Main House to the Point Turnaround and back. If your time permits, you may also decide to explore the Canyon Trail just north of the Ridge Trail. It is about 1.25 miles downhill from the trailhead to Garrapata Creek, where the trail ends. Plan extra time for the steep climb back to the Main House from the canyon, giving you a roundtrip total of 2.5 miles.

About Glen Deven Ranch

Glen Deven Ranch is an 860-acre property bequeathed to Big Sur Land Trust in 2001 by Dr. Seeley and Mrs. Virginia Mudd. With abundant woodlands, coastal river lands, grasslands, and plenty of wildlife, it was Virginia's dream that the ranch become an educational showplace for conservation, land stewardship, and artistic inspiration. That dream has been made reality as Glen Deven Ranch is the home of Big Sur Land Trust's Artist in Residence program, youth overnight summer camps, and guided hikes and outings. Glen Deven Ranch is also an emergency way station for Palo Colorado Canyon residents during times of flood or fire. During the 2016 Soberanes Fire, Glen Deven Ranch offered a safe evacuation route for Palo Colorado Canyon residents due to the Land Trust's work reducing flammable eucalyptus trees on site.
