Description

The Bakersfield Triathlon is one of the longest running events in the sport.  Established in 1981, the Bakersfield Triathlon has earned a reputation as one of the most challenging triathlons in the U.S.  The longer course has changed some over time but the addition of 2 laps on the bike up the Bluffs and a run loop that includes the famous Bastard Hill are enough to test the most seasoned veteran.  The Sprint Course allows both the beginner and the fast & furious to have a good time without the steep hills.  Relay teams are welcome in both events.  The Super Sprint course is a great introductory event and a Kids Tri is available for the young ones.

Early registration will open on May 13, 2019 and will be available online only.  Register early for best price.  If the event does not fill, there will be race day registration.  This event will be capped at 300 total participants.  All participants must be USAT members. Purchase a one day USAT membership during registration if you are not an annual member. There are no refunds for this event. Transfer of registration is available through Oct. 1 and only by approval and coordination of the event organizers. Racing under someone else's registration will lead to disqualification at this event and sanctioning of both the racer and original registrant by USAT.

The Bakersfield Triathlon features an Olympic distance race for individuals and relays (2 or 3 person), an Aquabike event which includes the Olympic swim and bike distances for individuals, a Sprint distance race for individuals and relays (2 or 3 person), a Super Sprint race for individuals, and a Kids Tri.  All races start and end at Lake Ming. The cycling portion of each race is primarily on Alfred Harrell Hwy and passes through scenic Hart Memorial Park.  The run portion of each race includes some or up to half the distance on dirt paths. Post-race action is lakeside and features a meal included with registration.  Additional meals can also be purchased with registration. Free parking is available onsite for participants and spectators.
