Teaching Tidepools® is Aquarius Aquarium Institute’s highly-popular original outreach program that gives central San Joaquin Valley preschool and elementary grade children the opportunity to see and touch our living California tide pool animal collection and interact with two of our staff educators right in their own classrooms.

Students throughout Fresno, Madera, Merced, Kings and Tulare counties experience our sea creatures along with an entertaining, interactive standards-based curriculum teachers love.

The program’s Disciplinary Core Ideas are designed to meet California Next Generation Science Standards for Public Schools (CA NGSS).

Your participation supports the Institute's CURRENT educational programs in our local schools - encouraging student curiosity and a sense of wonder!

The Fresno Aquarium is a project of the nonprofit 501(c)(3) Aquarius Aquarium Institute designed by Fresno’s own award-winning architect, Arthur Dyson, AIA, dean emeritus of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture.

Our 10-acre site, a former sand and gravel mining operation and asphalt plant location, overlooks the San Joaquin River and is adjacent to Highway 99 at the northern entrance to the City and County of Fresno. The property was generously donated to the Institute by the Roy and Betty Jura family in August 2006 after the Aquarium project completed all of its environmental studies and received the unanimous approval of the Fresno County Planning Commission.

After the Fresno City Council unanimously voted on January 27, 2009 to amend the City’s 2025 General Plan to include the Aquarium property, the City of Fresno received unanimous approval from the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) on April 15, 2009 to bring the project site into its adopted Sphere of Influence. This approval was required in order for us to extend City water and sewer lines to the Aquarium in the future.

The Institute’s plan is to build the Fresno Aquarium in phases as donations come in, so every gift and Charter Membership is critical to our continued success. The design for Phase One (above) was created by Arthur Dyson in 2010 around 12 major exhibits generously donated to the project in 2008/2009 by the Steinhart Aquarium of San Francisco. This phase is currently under construction. Phase Two (below) will be constructed next to Phase One in the future.

Your generous, tax-deductible support is greatly appreciated.
