Join us on August 11 for the 2nd Annual Reach the Peak Hike-a-Thon at Lassen National Park. With all the fires affecting the areas surrounding Lassen Volcanic National Park, their air quality has been terrible down in the valleys and lower elevations. Lucky for all of us, the air up at the park has been much clearer! We invite you to escape the heat, the stress, and the smoke and join us for a hike up Lassen Peak. The hike is 5-miles round trip and is moderate to strenuous. It will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete.
This year we are offering an alternative for those guests that want to enjoy the Peak without the strenuous hike. Lassen Volcanic National Park's Superintendent, Jim Richardson, will be leading hiking groups of up to 20 people on an off-trail hike from the Lassen Peak Trailhead every hour on the half-hour from 8:30am - 11:30am. Registered Hike-A-Thon participants can opt to join in this alternate route and enjoy an easier trek of Lassen that most people never get to see!
At this year's Hike-A-Thon you can enjoy a more leisurely hike while learning about the landscape on a trail that's not normally available to park visitors, or you can strap on your hiking boots and climb all the way to the top!
We will have a fueling station at the trailhead with water and snacks to take with you on the trail (there will not be aid stations along the route). We ask that hikers please bring their own hydration bottle/camelback to cut down on waste. This fundraiser will benefit Lassen Park Foundation and its programs including the Youth Camping Program for underserved youth at Lassen Volcanic National Park.
