Year 2 of the For the Love of the Bay Run!!!
The Bay Area has one of the strongest running communities in the country. You can find a 5K or 10K practically every week of the year without looking too hard. Unfortunately in these events, too many groups are left underrepresented at the start line. We want this event to be as colorful and diverse as the Bay Area. We are encouraging people of all walks of life, tall and short, thin and wide, fast and slow and every reason to come out. Runners, walkers, dancers, everybody!!
Nobody does inclusion like 510 Hikers does. So, let’s get ready to have some fun for a good cause!!
A goal of ours was to make this run affordable to make sure bank account status wasn’t the reason you did not attend. We don't want lack of funds to be the reason anyone stays home. We put the money collected from registration and put it BACK into the race. We put it into the shirts, the medals, the music we will have, the photos we promise to take free of charge, the raffle. We put it all back into the community, for you.
We will have the standard racing chips and bibs and results and standardized 5K and 10K distances to keep official track of time. Prizes for the men and women runners (including a pair of new run shoes and free lifetime registrations for both men and women age group winners).
We will have run shirts to be passed out for all who participate. Medals for finishers and a raffle post run. With help from the City of Oakland Parks Department, REI, Gu, Patagonia, Square Pie Guys, Trader Joe’s and more, the 5K and 10K will be an unforgettable event created by people from the Bay Area, for the people of the Bay Area.
Pre-event packet pick-up: We will have multiple options including morning of the run, the Friday evening before the run in Oakland at the Brooks film event that will include snacks and drinks and fun. You can also pick your run packet up at the REI store in Berkeley off San Pablo the Thursday evening before the run between 4pm and 8pm at the store!! Pick your packet from REI on Thursday at the store and get enrolled in REI’s co-op membership for free!! That’s right. All who sign up and pick their packets up from REI in Berkeley will be enrolled free of cost (Friday as well). So yes, it’s like running in this event for free!!!!
The starting line will be on the front Lawn at the Boathouse just past FairyLand on Bellevue Ave. Just look for smiling faces, red balloons and the red shirts gathering!!
