New Date: June 12, 2021
I am sad to announce that this year's Steamworks Half Marathon has been canceled, due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 virus.
This was a difficult decision. It was made in consultation with our friends at Steamworks Brewing and the board of directors for the Durango Running Club. As a race director, I can tell you that every ounce of my heart wanted to find a way to allow this race to happen. However, without knowing whether our current situation might return to normal by June 6th, this decision seems prudent.
We are making three options available, as follows:
Option # 1. Full refund of your race entry. Please allow four weeks, as there is some administrative work through RunSignup to make this happen. We need to find out how many registrations we need to refund, then send RunSignup a check to replenish our account, and then issue those refunds individually. We appreciate your patience. You will see the refund on the credit card you used when you registered. In anticipation of this likely question, RunSignup does not refund their $4 processing fee.
Option # 2. Defer your entry to next year. The race will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Deferring your entry to next year means you are automatically registered.
Option # 3. Donate your entry fee. We are making this option available, but please don't feel like we need the money. The Durango Running Club is financially healthy. We recently donated $5000 to the Community Emergency Relief Fund to support members of our community who are currently experiencing financial hardship. Your donation would support similar charitable efforts.
One last thought... Let's all keep running. It's the one thing keeping me sane right now. And there are races further out on the calendar, like the Thirsty 13 Half Marathon, that we want to see you at.
Thanks, and be safe.

A Colorado favorite for over 20 years! The Steamworks Half Marathon is a point-to-point race through the beautiful Animas Valley. You'll start at scenic Baker's Bridge, right on the Animas River, and run a fast course into town with a few gently rolling hills.
Afterwards, enjoy a great post-race party by the pool at Durango Sports Club, with food and beer provided by Steamworks Brewing.
Don't delay -- this race is very popular, and with a cap of just 300 runners it will sell out quickly.

There are two start times for this race:
MAIN FIELD START: The main field starts at 8am. The majority of runners will start at this time. If your race pace is faster than 12 minutes/mile, please start in the main field.
EARLY START: There is an early start at 7:15am for anyone who needs extra time on the course. If you are a walker, or if your estimated per-mile pace is 12 minutes/mile or slower, please sign up for the early start. You will receive an official finish time and will be listed in the race results, however you will not be eligible to win or place in your age group.
NOTE: Do NOT sign up for the early start if you know you will be faster than 12 minutes/mile. This is a safety issue, as you will arrive at sections of the course before our course marshals and aid stations are in place. You will also cause confusion for our timing company at the finish line. Also note that only participants in the main field start are eligible to place in their age group.
Packet pickup will take place on Friday, June 5 from 4 - 6:30 at Steamworks Brewing, 801 E. 2nd Avenue, in Durango.
If you can't make it on Friday, packets will also be available on race morning from 6:15 - 6:45am at the Durango Sports Club. If you need to pick up your packet on race morning, please arrive by 6:30am to ensure we can get everyone checked in on time.
If possible, please come Friday, as this makes life easier for everyone on race morning.
You may have someone else pick up your packet. We're easy -- just e-mail us and let us know.
There is no parking at the start line. Bus transportation from Durango Sports Club to the start line is included in your registration. You are also welcome to get dropped off by a friend at the start line.
The bus for the early start leaves at 6:35am. The bus for the main start leaves at 7am.
You will be asked on the registration form whether you plan to ride the bus. This information helps us to plan for the correct number of buses. Please help us out so we don't ask bus drivers to get up early on a Saturday morning if they aren't needed.
Limited parking is available at the Durango Sports Club. Additional parking is available at Grace Church, two blocks before the Sports Club on Florida Road. Street parking is also available.
There are six aid stations on the course, approximately every two miles starting at mile 2.5. Each station will have water, PowerAde, first aid, and friendly volunteers. The station near mile eight will also have bananas and oranges.
Toilets will be available at the Sports Club, at the start line, and near mile 5 and mile 9 on the course.
After the race, all runners and spectators are invited to celebrate by the pool at the Sports Club. Bring your swimsuit! Steamworks Brewing will provide lunch and beer for all the runners. Guests can purchase food and beer for $10. The awards ceremony will begin at 11:30am.
