On January 12th, 2024 (my birthday), I went ot see my primary care provider. I expected a routine visit, but my oxygen levels were low, and I was quickly placed on supplemental oxygen and given referrals to help determine why my oxygen levels weren't normal. That moment began my journey to a shocking diagnosis of heart failure and pulmonary hypertension at only 53 years old- suddenly, it made sense why climbing stairs had become so difficult. I stated new medications and found myself surrounded by a whole team of medical professionals helping to manage my health and adjust to my new reality. It was discouraging- but knew I wanted to do whtever I could to take back some control. That's was led me to pulmonary rehab, and it turned out to be the best decisions I've made for my health.

Pulmonary rehab has helped me regain strength, stamina, confidence, and hope. The exercise physiologists and respiratory therapists have been incredible- they've taught me how to move safely, breathe better, and keep pushing forward at my own pace. They've cheered me on every step of the way, and theeir support has made all the difference in the world. I am so grateful for this program and it's staff. I honestly can't sing its praises enough!

In closing, if you or someone you love are dealing with a heart and'or lung condition, I highly recomment talking to your docotor about getting into cardiac or pulmonary rehab. It just might change your life for the better.

My first experience with Banner NCMC Cardiac Rehab goes back to 2018. My wife and I had just returned from a vacation in Belize when, while mowing the lawn one afternoon, I began to feel pain in my upper jaw. Thankfully, I listened to my wife's urging and we made a trip to the ER. That decision likely saved my life. Before long, I found myself in the hospital, where doctors discovered a blockage and placed two stents in what's commonly called the "Widow-maker."

I don't recall exactly how I ended up at NCMC Cardiac Rehab, but I do remember how serious things felt when I first walked through those doors. I was in for something special. An incredible team of cardiac rehab specialists guided me through a 12-week, 36 session program that not only strengthened my body, but renewed my spirit. Thanks to their care and encouragement, I felt better than I had in years-- and profoundly grateful to be alive.

My story didn't end there. On September 22, 2024, I faced another life-threatening challenge. While at home, I suffered a sudden medical emergency that most people don't survive. My wife heard me collapse in the bathroom and immediately called 911. The Greeley Fire Department and paramedics arrived quickly and transported me to the hospital. I was supposed to be flown to a trauma unit in Loveland , but weather conditions made that immposible. During the ambulance ride, my heart stopped-- but thanks to their skill and determination, they brought me back to life. 

After eight hours of surgery, two weeks in the CICU, and another week in a rehab hospital, I had survived an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), Once again, I found myself walking through the familiar doors of NCMC Cardiac Rehab, ready to begin the road to recover-- and once again, greeted by the same caring faces.

Banner's Cardiac Rehabilitation program is a truly comprehensive, closely supervised journey that combines physical exercise with education and heart-healthy living and nutrition. What makes NCMC's program exceptional is the teamwork and genuine compassion that every staff member brings to their work.

The support I've received has been nothing short of overwhelming-- even as I now face a new challenge in my journey, cancer. The entire team has continued to encourage and uplift me through it all.

To Mary, Faith, Kathy, Paul, Shanda, Lyndsey, Tiffany, Tori, Suzy, and Hannah--thank you! Your enthusiasm, expertise, and compassion do not go unnoticed. Your hard work and dedication have touched countless lives, mine included. I am deeply grateful for each of you and for the life-changing care you proved every single day.
