ATTENTION: If you were unable to pre-reg, you will be able to register the day of the race for the fun run, walk and timed 5K! Hope to see you on Sunday!
The original PoCo Fest 5K was created by Floyd Parness in 2009. Coach Floyd was a beloved and respected coach in North Branford for over three decades. This will be the 3rd annual Floyd's 5K cross country race & fun run, an event in which we will celebrate the life and spirit that Floyd brought to his athletes & community. These events are a testimony to Floyd and the lasting effect he had on kids and adults alike. The committee dedicates many hours to put this together and is lead by his three children Jennifer, Todd and Dave. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Floyd Parness Scholarship Fund. Each May, two North Branford seniors will receive the scholarships. These students have run indoor track, outdoor track and/or cross country, the sports in which Floyd coached. They exhibit traits which Floyd felt so strongly about including heart, dedication and perseverance.
If you are unable to attend the race and would like to donate directly to the scholarship fund, please make checks payable to the "Floyd Parness Scholarship Fund." Checks are to be mailed to: 88 Pine Street, Wallingford CT 06492. Your support is appreciated!
EXCITING OPPORTUNITY: The POCO fest is offering a beer and wine garden, which will be held after the race. If you participate in Floyd's 5K, use the promo code: 5K5OFF, to receive $5 off your ticket into the beer and wine garden. **Bib must be presented upon entry into the garden. http://nbpotatofest.com/nbpotato2014/events/beer-and-wine-garden.aspx
Floyd's 5K Course travels along rolling terrain through fields, woods and over streams of the North Branford Fairgrounds area and Augur farms. Floyd designed and maintained this course which is currently the home of the North Branford High School cross country team. Their mantra "Always in our hearts and in our soles" will continue be a part of this event and Floyd's legacy.
The 5k (3.1mi) course is challenging and scenic, but one in which we encourage all ability levels to enjoy. There will be a water table on the course and many cross country athletes to help guide and support you.
There will be a one mile kids fun run (untimed) prior to the 5K. We invite all abilities 12 & under to sign up. Parents can run along side for support if needed.
The 5K run event is computer chip timed. Awards will be given to the Male and Female champions as well as 1st, 2nd & 3rd in age groups 9 & under, 10-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+ (and older if they pre-register).
There will also be a 5K walk (untimed) for participants who do not want to run, however would like to enjoy the beautiful scenic course!
The shirts are a fabulous design and the bibs are collectors items! Food and fluids will be available after the finish.
