Since August is high season in Maine, you're encouraged to make hotel reservations once you are confirmed as having a team slot. This location is a 10 minute walk from the ferry terminal from where you'll be taken to the start venue as well as where race check-in and the mandatory pre-race brief will be held on Saturday afternoon. Options for accomodations in the region can be found by visiting the Portland Visitors Bureau. There are a number of hotels within the city proper that are within walking distance of the Casco Bay Lines ferry terminal that will transport teams to the start venue(s) on race morning, returning to Portland from the finish venue on the hour beginning at 1:15. "Early birds" might be fortunate to locate one of the many delightful AirB&B sites in the area. Check with Casco Bay Ferry Lines for inter-island ferry times or any of the water taxi companies if you consider an other-island location keeping in mind that the race plans to start at 6:00AM (Long Course) and 7:00AM (Short Course) on Sunday. Plans are in the works (as of 9/13) for the finish venue to be on Long Island in 2018, several miles away. A special chartered ferry will transport athletes to the start venues (Great Diamond Island for Long Course, Peaks Island for Short Course) from the main terminal on Portland's Commercial St. early on race morning. It will make one stop to pick up athletes on ONLY Peaks Island on the way to the start. Spectators wishing to view the race from the water can purchase boarding passes to chartered cruise boats at the "Store" tab on the upper left corner of the website beginning on May 1. Tickets for family and friends to enjoy the finish line cookout will also be available in this way.
Portland International Jetport is barely a ten minute car ride to the Commericial Street and harborfront part of Portland. Boston-Logan International Airport is 108 miles to Portland, slightly less than a two hour drive. Peaks Island is a 15 minute ferry ride from the Casco Bay Lines terminal on Commercial St.
