SAFETY PLAN

While we are expecting to run this event at pre-COVID conditions we will be watching the local and national conditions. Below are the procedures we used for the 2020 event and wanted to leave these viewable in the event that we would need to reinstate any of these procedures.

Churchill’s Half Marathon Safety Procedures

This safety plan below is designed to cover the Churchill’s Half Marathon to be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020. It will start at the Perrysburg High School Parking lot and finish at the Shops at Fallen Timbers.

Pre Race: Registration & Packet Pickup

Communications

    • Outline safety procedures for participants, staff/volunteers, and spectators ;
    • Publish on registration page and website if available;
    • Email to participants prior to race day.

Ticket Sales - Online registration only, no in-person registration nor packet pickup on race day.

Capacity – Limiting the 2020 event to only 800 people. This will permit us to use social distanced wave starts.

Packet Pickup - More time, more space.

    • Face Masks Required by all.
    • Check in ahead of time prior to race to ease congestion. Follow state social distancing guidelines and mark 6ft intervals;
    • Outdoor, tented area.

Race Day

Face Coverings: Race staff and volunteers shall wear masks full time. All participants required to wear masks/face covering in non-competition times:

    • Pre and post race
    • Start Line Corrals
    • Immediate finish line

Sanitation

    • Sanitizers provided in all portajohns;
    • Portable restrooms spaced 6’ apart;
    • Increased number of portable restrooms available at start line;
    • Hand wash stations and hand sanitizer stations added to the start/finish line area.
    • Mark out 6’ lines using cones

Spectators

    • Must wear facemask;
    • Maintain 6’ social distancing;
    • Must conduct daily symptom self assessment;
    • Minimal spectators at start/finish line;

Screening

    • Each participant shall be required to complete a declaration at packet pickup in that they are not currently infected by COVID-19 and have not had, or knowingly been in contact with, someone experiencing any of the following COVID-19 symptoms in the past 14 days: https://www.cdc.gov/screening/paper-version.pdf
    • By acknowledging, the participant agrees to take temperature on race day. Fever of 100.4 or higher, the participant shall not participate.

 

Start Line

    • Half Marathon start time will be 8:00am
      1. 8 Wave Starts; minimum time of 60 seconds with 100 people per wave
      2. Corrals will be setup for each wave:
      3. Start line will be 25 feet wide, with corrals extending 120 feet.
        1. Face coverings will be required until runners cross the start line. Corral checkers will monitor and help load the corrals
        2. No national Anthem or pre race instructions to minimize time in corral;

Course

    • Runners are encouraged to carry their own water;
    • Route will offer one water stop after the 8 mile mark;
      1. Water Stop to offer bottle water only
        1. Tables to be spaced 15' between with 100 bottles per table.
        2. Volunteer to load from behind, runners to self serve
        3. Recycling bins placed beyond for self recycling

Finish Line and Post Race

    • Chip timing only
    • Runners “encouraged” to leave finish area ASAP;
    • Results streamed live and sent to mobile devices. No awards ceremonies. Pickup at separate tent;
    • Finisher medals will be distributed at packet pickup tent;
    • Refreshments to be individually wrapped items, or whole fruits packaged in advance and distributed in bags, no self serve or bulk items. Only bottled water to be served

The Toledo Roadrunners Club with guidance from Lucas County and the Wood County Health Departments have developed this plan to keep our participants, volunteers and community healthy and safe.

Please follow the above guidelines to ensure a safe in-person event.
