Q: What is the Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE)?

A: The Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that builds community by strengthening the nonprofit sector. Located in Charlottesville, the CNE provide trainings, workshops, consulting, and resources to help nonprofits increase their impact. The CNE has over 280 nonprofit members, but their services extend to all nonprofits in the area and individuals interested in engaging with the sector.  The CNE is a local hub and trusted resource.  

Q: Why is CNE the primary beneficiary of the Community Bridges 5K Run/Walk? 
A:  With over 280 nonprofit members, supporting the CNE is an opportunity to support the broad, diverse, and important nonprofit sector. The Community Bridges 5K Run/Walk unites UVA and greater Charlottesville in a celebration of community and service, both of which are values integral to the CNE’s mission.

Q: Is anything included in the registration fee?
A: Each registration fee includes a donation to the CNE - a portion of which can also be designated directly to one of the CNE's member organizations - in addition to a custom, short-sleeve, white cotton race t-shirt. The event will include information booths showcasing the work of local nonprofit organizations as well as food, music and an awards ceremony for race winners.

Q: I’ve just realized that I can’t come to the race. Can I get a refund or transfer my registration?
A: Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds on registration fees or transfer registrations. However, you can still pick up your t-shirt and your donation will support the Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE) and your designated nonprofit member.

Q: Is there a discount for youth/students? 
A:
Yes; there is a $5 discount for students and children under the age of 18.

Q: I'm not sure I can afford the registration fee, are scholarships available? 
A:
Registration scholarships are available. If you wish to participate but cannot afford the registration fee, please contact charlottesvilletrackclub@gmail.com for more information.

Q: Where does the race begin?
A:
The race will start at 9:00 a.m. at the UVA Chemistry Building, located at 409 McCormick Road.

Q: How long will it last?
A: The race will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude with an awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

Q: Is there an event after the race?
A:
Yes. The Celebration of Service will commence at 9:30 a.m. in the McIntire Amphitheatre, on Central Grounds. This event is free and open to the public.

1. Start on McCormick Rd. near Engineer’s Way
2. Right on University Ave.
3. Left on 14th St. NW
4. Right on Wertland St.
5. Right on 10th St. NW
6. Left on W. Main St.
7. Left on 8th St. NW
8. Continue underneath tunnel, right on 8th St. NW
9. Left on West St.
10. Right on 11th St. NW
11. Left on Gordon Ave.
12. Left on Rugby Rd.
13. Cross University Ave to McCormick Rd.
14. Finish on Amphitheater Way/McCormick Rd.

Q: Is this race chip timed?
A:
Yes, all participants will have a bib with chip timing.

Q: What types of teams exist for UVA faculty, staff, and students?
A:
UVA faculty, staff, and students can choose a from a list of Faculty/Staff, Club Sports, Greek Organizations/Councils, and First-Year Dorms teams. All students who register will also be automatically entered into their School team.

Q: Who can create a team?
A:
We encourage local schools, churches, and businesses to create Community Teams!  During registration you'll be asked if you'd like to join a team. Check yes. Then you'll see options to join an existing team or  "Create a New Group/Team".  Enter the new team name and click Continue.

Q: How do I form/join a team after registration?

Go to your Profile
See Upcoming Races, choose The Community Bridges 5K
Click Manage Registration next to the registration that you are editing. Then click on TEAM in the top navigation bar. You can join an existing Group/Team or create a NEW Group/Team.

Q: I chose the wrong t-shirt size during registration. How can I change my size?

See Upcoming Races, choose The Community Bridges 5K
Click Manage Registration next to the registration that you are editing. Then click on  GIVEAWAY in the top navigation bar.

Q: When can I pick up my bib and shirt?
A: 
Packet Pick-Up is Friday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at John Paul Jones Arena. 

Q: Are strollers or baby carriers allowed on the race course?
A: No, because of safety issues due to the high volume of participants, strollers of any kind (including jogging strollers) and baby carriers are not allowed on the race course. 

Q: Can I run with my dog?
A: Dogs are great training partners, but Rover has to sit this one out. It’s a humans-only event. We don’t want to risk runners or dogs getting spooked, tangled in leashes or worse yet, injured.
