28th Annual Huntington's Disease Triathlon/Duathlon/Aquabike 2019

The Huntington’s Disease Triathlon is one of the few races in the world which is operated by a not-for-profit organization. The event is organized solely by volunteers and all proceeds from the race support research aimed at treating and curing Huntington’s disease. Since its inception, the Triathlon has raised $1.2 million and has involved ten thousand participants.  Please consider donating to help find a cure.

2019 marks the 28th Anniversary of the Huntington’s Disease Triathlon. Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that leads to the progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the brain resulting in the deterioration of a person’s physical and mental abilities. Today, there are 30,000 symptomatic American’s with HD and more that 200,000 at risk for inheriting the disease. The symptoms of HD have been described as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s simultaneously. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50% chance of carrying the faulty gene that causes HD.  It has no cure.

Race Director, Debbie Gomberg, began her fight against Huntington’s disease (HD) when her father lost his battle to HD in 1989. Her sister is currently afflicted with the disease and is in the later stages. Debbie, herself, and all her children/grandchildren are at risk for the disease. Over the past quarter decade, she has devoted much time and enormous effort in supporting the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) through her commitment as President of the South Florida Chapter and as Event Director of our Annual Triathlon.
