Description

The Carry a Jerry 10K & 5K was created to raise awareness about the water crisis in Africa by giving race participants the option to see what it feels like to carry a jerry can of water during the race.  All proceeds benefit Parental Care Ministries, a non-profit organization whose goal is to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of over 1,500 orphaned children in Uganda.  The event is hosted by Baylor University's Students Improving Global Health Together (SIGHT).

Course Info

The Carry a Jerry 10k & 5k courses will begin at Indian Spring Park, in front of the Suspension Bridge, and continue along the Brazos.  5k participants will turn around under the Herring Ave bridge and head back toward Indian Spring Park.  10kers will cross the Herring Ave Bridge, and then make a left and head into Brazos Park East, completing a loop and heading back toward Herring Ave.  After crossing, they will continue back to the Suspension Bridge to finish as the 5kers did.

The course is generally flat, except for an inclined path leading onto the Herring Ave Bridge, and all parts are paved.

10kers will have 2 water stations and 5kers 1.  The first water station will be near the 5k turn-around.  The second will be located in Brazos East Park.

Note that chip timing will be provided for both courses.

About Parental Care Ministries and SIGHT

Students Improving Global Health Together

Students Improving Global Health Together (SIGHT), is a Baylor student organization committed to educating, equipping, and empowering students for future careers in global health.  Our book clubs read text written by influential people in the field, and discuss how our generation can tackle such enormous problems like  global poverty and inequality, AIDS/HIV, women’s rights, and neglected tropical diseases.  Many of our members are involved in mission trips, volunteering in the community, and are a big part of fundraisers like the Carry a Jerry!

Learn more about SIGHT and its mission here: baylorsight.com

Every dollar of your entry fee for SIGHT’s Carry a Jerry 10k & 5k will go to Parental Care Ministries, including any donations you wish to contribute.

Parental Care Ministries

Parental Care Ministries exists to help poor and orphaned children of Uganda by meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs in Christian schools. They also equip 70+ pastors to spread the Gospel throughout Uganda and surrounding countries.  PCM USA partners with Pastor Emmanuel Nnyanzi and his wife Sarah to provide for the needy, comfort the hurting, and proclaim the Good News to the multitudes. Pastor Emmy and Supermom, as she is affectionally called in Uganda, oversee over 1,800 children in several schools throughout Southwest Uganda. PCM is spreading the love of Jesus and helping the Ugandan people through self-sustaining farm land and banana plantations, providing access to clean water, building schools to educate and churches to disciple the people. In addition to that we are healing the sick through our Kate Clinic, caring for orphaned and abandoned babies at the Omwana "Baby" House and launching a radio station to share the love of Jesus throughout Southwest Uganda.
