Run to the River

Run to the River is a fundraiser for the Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC), a grassroots educational and cultural center fostering personal growth and community change in the Greater Fulton community in Richmond’s East End. Formed in 2002, NRC transformed the old community post office building into a vibrant community center. In January 2005, NRC opened with an after-school tutoring program, GED classes and an early youth literacy program. For over 10 years, NRC has been THE resource for the Greater Fulton neighborhood.

NRC builds individual, family and community capacity through four vital program areas:

  • Community Education - NRC has a Montessori preschool for children ages 2 ½-5, an after-school and summer program for youth ages 6-18, and adult GED classes.
  • Community Health - Youth and adults learn healthy lifestyle skills and eating habits though cooking and exercise classes, gardening classes held in a sustainable learning garden and a free summer youth lunch program.
  • Community Employment and Financial Resource Development - Through the NRC Works program, adult neighbors receive employment placement and career improvement services, financial education and coaching, and access to public benefits/income supports.
  • Community Organizing - NRC serves as the convening agency for Greater Fulton’s Future, a multi-year neighborhood revitalization initiative.

For more information about NRC, visit the NRC website.

The NRC is a non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
