The first Baptist Mission Center of the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association was opened in 1939 and began operation on Salem Avenue and Miss Annie Mae Broyles was its first Missionary Director. Today the Baptist Mission Centers are the benevolent arm of the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association serving the communities of Southeast and Southwest Roanoke. The two mission centers, Baptist Friendship House on Elm Avenue and Baptist Community Center on 17th Street are supported by the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association budget and by a special Associational Missions Offering named after Miss Annie Mae Broyles.
The Annie Mae Broyles annual Week of Prayer for Associational Missions is traditionally held the third week of May. For several years the offering goal has been $50,000. That offering is divided in the following manner in support of the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association ministries:
Baptist Mission Centers $25,000
Bold Missions $18,200
Disaster Relief $ 2,500
Standing Rock $ 2,500
Conference Ministry $ 1,800
