We have coordinated this event to follow Restore Illinois Phase 4 guidelines. Please take a moment to read the details below, and click on the link to choose your wave start time (first come, first serve). We need you to let us know which wave start time you prefer, OR if you are unable to attend (we will still have your shirt/swag for you). We are managing very tight numbers so please reserve your spot or let us know if you’re not planning to attend in person.
***SOCIAL DISTANCING & GROUP SIZE***
While we are allowed to have groups of 50, we still need to maintain a 6 foot distance within this group of 50. Masks aren’t required, but you will need to comply with the 6 foot distance from others. In order to comply with social distancing guidelines, we are hosting this event in waves that each participant will select. Arrive to the start area no more than 5 minutes before your wave time. After crossing the finish line we need all runners to continue moving out of the finish line area and towards the event exit. We aren’t able to host an after party or awards ceremony, as the next waves will be coming in and the finish area has to be clear. If you are participating in the Kids Fun Run, you will immediately proceed to the south end of the track. If you’re looking for a place to congregate and hang out after the race, Dooley Park in Downs is open, as well as the Union Coffee & Ice Cream Shop.
***BRING YOUR OWN WATER***
This race is self-supported and our goal is to have a contactless event, to keep everyone as safe as possible. This means we will not provide any water at the start/finish or on course. Please hydrate and bring your own water. You are welcome to drop water ahead of time at a point on the course you choose, or carry a handheld while running. We will not have any water on the premises.
***KIDS FUN RUN***
Due to 6 foot social distancing guidelines, the Kids Fun Run will be different than past years. Managing and requiring a large group of children to social distance isn't feasible. Instead we will have kids run in groups or solo based on who they are sheltering with. We will have volunteers to start and time kids that want to take a lap, and we will have medals for parents to pick up and award to their children if they choose (volunteers will not hand these out directly to children). The Kids Run will be available between 7:45-8:45, parents can come anytime within this window (before or after the 5k wave times they may be participating in).
In order to reduce race course traffic, please enter the Tri-Valley High School parking lot from the east. If you map to 513 E. Washington Street, Downs, this will bring you to the parking lot that is NOT on the race course and is closest to packet pickup. Take Rt 150 to Washington Street (please do not access Washington Street from Seminary Street through town). Once you are parked and have your packet, you will walk to the start line at the Middle School (there is no parking at the Middle School).
Friday night, Tri-Valley Middle School, 4:00pm-7:00pm
Saturday morning, High School Parking Lot 6:30am-8:00am
The 5k course and the 1mi walk are nearly the same courses as the past two years, starting and finishing at the Middle School. The only change is that the Start and Finish are in separate locations at the Middle School, in order to comply with social distancing guidelines. The 1 MI Walk has been updated and will return before Dooley Park, consistent with current GPS mapping. Please familiarize yourself with the course map and look for on-course markings. It’s important to stay on the correct side of the road while running, so you can ensure proper social distancing while others will be at different points on the course with you. As you arrive and depart the event, please do your best to avoid streets that are part of the course.
***RESULTS & AWARDS***
Results won’t be physically posted at the event, but we will make them available on our Facebook page. You will also receive a text with your result if you signed up for it during registration. All award medals will be made available for pick up the following week at the Union in Downs or at Often Running in Normal.
We would love to have your spectators and fans walk to a point on the course and cheer for you! The Start/Finish area is being managed by head count in order to meet state health guidelines for registered participants. Spectators are asked not to be near the Start/Finish areas.
