Description

Trail races of 50 miles, 50 kilometers (31 miles) and 25 kilometers (15.6 miles) right through the Western Everglades. Runners are fully supported with aid stations and roving park rangers throughout the course.  More than 50 miles of trails are cleared each year in order for this race to happen.  Experience this spectacular and unique venue along old logging "trams"--trails raised above the cypress swamp lowlands--and through expansive grassland prairies and tropical hardwood hammocks.  The location is the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park, the largest state park in Florida, featuring the greatest variety of orchids and bromeliads on the continent and the exotic animal life of this unique American treasure.  The Fakahatchee is located 90 minutes west of Miami and Fort Lauderdale, six miles north of Everglades City on State Route 29.

Place

Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park: Online maps do not accurately show the location of RACE HEADQUARTERS, parking and camping area. From I-75 ("Alligator Alley") drive south for 15 miles to County Road 837 (Janes Scenic Drive) and turn right. From U.S. 41 ("Tamiami Trail"), take State Route 29 north for 2 1/2 miles and turn left on C.R. 837. Drive approximately 1/4 mile, then make a sharp right turn to stay on Janes Scenic Drive. In approximately 3/8 mile, see beige metal building on the right. Turn LEFT there. 100 yards on the right is your destination.
