Description

How Far Can You Run? 100 miles? 75, 50, 25...?

Wild Sebastian 100 is a Trail Run in the St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park. This Park is beautiful with amazing scenery and wildlife sightings. The trails are mostly flat, running on hard packed dirt and some sandy areas and the possibility of some wet spots. The course is laid out as a 25 mile loop (except the first loop will be 26.2 miles) which allows for race distances of 26.2, 51, 76 and 101 miles. This event is ideal for the runner who wants to step it up from shorter events and try out their stamina at the Ultra Distances, for those training for long distance events. The cutoff time for ALL distances is 32hrs.

“The St Sebastian River Preserve State Park” preserves open grassy forests of longleaf pine that were once commonplace throughout Florida. The pine flatwoods form a backdrop for other biological communities, including cypress domes, scrubby flatwoods, sandhills, and a beautiful strand swamp. These habitats are home to many native plants and animals, including over 50 protected species. The “Wild Sebastian 100 Spring Edition” will be held in the south half of the park, mostly following the Blue and Red Trails in those quadrants.

This Run would also be great if you are planning to run a full 100 miler in the near future and you want to test your fitness level. If you sign up for a certain distance but you cannot or do not want to complete that distance then you still will get the award/recognition for the lesser distance. For example you sign up for the full 100 miles but while you are on the course you decide to complete 75 miles then you will still get the award and be listed in the results for the 75 mile distance and not be listed in the results as a DNF (did not finish) in the 100 mile results, or you already completed three laps (75 miles) but cannot finish the last lap (25 miles) before the cutoff time then you will get the recognition for the 75 miles that you did complete.

The Cutoff times for ALL distances will be 32 hours, with that we give everybody the chance to complete the distance of their choice. We, here at AFLOC are committed to make competitions fun for all, not just the elite athlete!

The Wild Sebastian 100 is held in April and November every year and is the major fundraiser for A Florida Outdoor Center or AFLOC. With the funds raised during the Wild Sebastian event AFLOC will be able to fund its Summer Camp, After School and Junior Guide programs. For example in 2013 after the Spring Event we were able to give scholarships to 52 kids to join the summer camp that otherwise would not be able to.

The Wild Sebastian 100 Event is fully owned and produced by the Staff and Volunteers of AFLOC.

New For April's Race - The Wild Sebastian 100 is going CUP LESS

Due to the amount of trash at the end of the race -we had generated more than 30 bags of trash, most of it was just CUPS- and in good consciousness we cannot continue doing things the same way.  We would like to run our events with the least amount of impact to the Park and to nature altogether. After talking to other race directors we have decieded to take the next step in becoming as Green of an event as possible. So April’s Wild Sebastian 100 will be CUP FREE.  NO more cups of water and Gatorade will be handed out at the Aid Stations.

We will provide each runner with one ultra light weight collapsible silicon cup from Ultraspire.  They are being used in races around the world.  You can check out their website for more details.

Runners will be required to carry the cup or can purchase additional cups to have one at each aid station in there dropbags so that you don’t need to carry it.  We still recommend hydration systems; bottles, or bladders because 4 miles is a long way to go in between Aid Stations and water/drinks.

We will still serve hot soup and hot beverages in the evening and night time hours in reusable containers only provided by us.
