The JB Southern Oak 1 Mile Championships

Jared Bynum, a committed runner, triathlete and one of the founders of the PRS Running Club, suddenly and tragically lost his life on Sunday, October 7, 2012 while training for the 2012 Florida Ironman. 

In memory of Jared, the PRS Running Club will host the JB One Mile Championships from Unity Plaza on June 27th, 2015.  This race will be one of the only dedicated one mile races on the First Coast this year and will be run in multiple waves for people to give people of all levels and abilities the chance to take home an award.

All participants get a technical race t-shirt and the race will be chip timed by North Florida’s premier race timing company, PRS Race Timing.

Following the race there will be an awesome post-race party at Unity Plaza with a live band (will be announced shortly).  The race course is perfect for spectating so, before or after your wave goes off, you can watch your friends’ race the mile.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will fund the Jared Bynum Memorial Scholarship, which is given out every year by the PRS Running Club to a college bound Jacksonville area high school senior who participated in cross country and/or track and best exemplifies excellence in running, excellence in character and excellence in academics. 

The race will be run in waves.  The first wave is a team wave and the last five are five individual waves.  You can enter as many team and individual waves you are eligible for with one individual wave entry fee.  NOTE - ANYONE ENTERING A TEAM WAVE MUST ALSO BE A PAID REGISTRANT OF AN INDIVIDUAL WAVE.   Participants may run the team wave only if desired but must pay for one of the individual waves regardless if they run in the individual wave.

TEAM WAVES

OPEN TEAM WAVE (5:30 PM)

WHO CAN RACE IN IT? Anybody who can get at least a 3 person team together.
WHAT ARE THE AWARDS?  The 1st Place Team (based on fastest combined times of the top 3 runners on your team) wins $250.00

INDIVIDUAL WAVES

OPEN WAVE (6:00 PM)

WHO CAN RACE IN IT?  Male and female runners who expect to finish in 8-12 minutes.
WHAT ARE THE AWARDS?  $50.00 to the first male and female overall along with custom awards to the top three men and women overall and to the top men and women in the following age groups: under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and over 60 – win Custom Awards.  If a woman is the overall winner of this wave she wins $100.00.
*Any open wave participant who runs under 8:00 is ineligible for any prizes.

COMPETITIVE WAVE (6:30 PM)

WHO CAN RACE IN IT?  Men who expect to run 5:16 to 7:59 and women who expect to run 6:01 to 7:59.
WHAT ARE THE AWARDS?  $50.00 to the first male and female overall along with custom awards to the top three men and women overall and to the top men and women in the following age groups: under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and over 60 – win Custom Awards.  If a woman is the overall winner of this wave she wins $100.00.
**Any male competitive wave participant man who runs 5:15 or faster and any female who runs 6:00 or faster is ineligible for any prizes.

MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP WAVE (7:00 PM)

WHO CAN RACE IN IT? Men who expect to run under 5:15.
WHAT ARE THE AWARDS?  1st-3rd overall win custom awards and the following cash prizes:  1st Overall $750.00, 2nd Overall $400.00, 3rd Overall $300.00.  In addition, the 1st overall man can win a $250.00 bonus if he breaks 4:15.

WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP WAVE (7:15 PM)

WHO CAN RACE IN IT? Women who expect to run under 6:00.
WHAT ARE THE AWARDS?  1st-3rd overall win custom awards and the following cash prizes:  1st Overall $750.00, 2nd Overall $400.00, 3rd Overall $300.00.  In addition, the 1st overall woman wins $250.00 if she breaks 5:05 and an additional $250.00 if she beats the 1st overall male.

BREW CREW WAVE PRESENTED BY EUROPEAN STREET (7:30 PM)

WHO CAN RACE IN IT?  Anyone 21 and up who wants to run after a few beers.
WHAT ARE THE AWARDS?  1st Overall wins $50.00 and a custom beer horn, 2nd Overall wins $20.00 and a case of local craft beer, 3rd Overall wins a case of local craft beer.
***All Brew Crew participants must check in at the brew crew desk by 4:00 pm for his/her brew card.  All men must have three stamps prior to the race and women two stamps.  You get a stamp for each beer you finish from 4:00 pm to 4:40 pm.

TEAM WAVE ENTRY FEES:

Entry into team waves are free with paid entry into an individual wave.

NOTE - PACKET PICKUP WILL ONLY BE AT THE RACE.  Your race packet will be available at the race 60 minutes prior to your starting wave.

The race will be chip timed using a shoe chip system.   Chips will be distributed at the packet pickup.   All runners must cross the mat at the finish line with their chip properly attached to their shoe to score in the race.  Chips must be returned at the conclusion of the race at the finish line.   Runners not returning chips will be charged a fee of $30.
