One Small Step to Build a Stronger Community!
The Space Race is a 2 and 4 mile walk/run throughout Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex that benefits United Way of Brevard. The walk/run journeys participants through the historic Rocket Garden featuring eight authentic rockets, the booster stack that graces the entryway to Space Shuttle Atlantis® and to Heroes & Legends featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame®.
Winners in each category will receive their award from veteran NASA astronaut Jon McBride. After the race, enjoy a beer or wine in the Rocket Garden at the after-race party.
This family-friendly event is open to guests of runners for $2.50 through online registration or $5.00 day of race.

Only pre-registered participants that complete the registration and payment process by January 7, 2018 are guaranteed a complimentary race shirt. Those participants who have pre-registered by December 22, 2017 will be first to receive their shirt and preferred size.
Complimentary parking is available in parking lots 4 and 5 beginning at 5:00 p.m.

TIMING & SCORING & AWARDS
All participants will be chip timed. Scoring for the 2-mile race will be determined by top 10 men and top 10 women finishers. Scoring for the 4-mile race will be determined by age groups.

Kennedy Space Center is protected as a federal government facility. For the safety of visitors and employees, the following items are not permitted at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex:
Additionally, large coolers, luggage and other large bags are not permitted through the front gate. Be prepared: all bags, backpacks and other items may be opened and inspected at the discretion of security officers. If any of the above items are discovered, you will be asked to return them to your vehicle. If you choose not to return the items to your vehicle, you must surrender them to a security officer. Surrendered items will not be returned to you. All visitors must pass through a metal-detecting magnetometer screening device.
When and where does the race take place?
Friday, January 12, 2018 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. The 2-mile race starts at 7:20 p.m. and the 4-mile starts at 7:30 p.m.
How long is the course?
Two-mile run/walk course and a 4-mile run/walk course.
How will I be timed?
There will be a clock and chip timing at the finish line to view your time.
When and where do I pick up my registration materials?
Packet pickup for those pre-registered will take place on race day from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018. Registration on race day starts at 5:00 p.m. for all participants not pre-registered.
Who gets a shirt?

What if I need help along the way?
Qualified emergency medical professionals are available to provide assistance at the start/finish lines.
Can I participate in the event with my dog?
Sorry, as much as we love our pets too, the safety of participants is our main concern. Therefore, we do not allow pets on the course.
I will be out of town on race day and not able to participate. Can I get my money returned?
We appreciate your race registration. As the race brochure states, we are unable to issue refunds. .
What if there is a rocket launch the day of the race?
Kennedy Space Center is a working space flight facility and as a result, events are subject to change without advance notice. In the event of a scheduled rocket launch at a time that would conflict with the Space Race, communication on potential re-scheduling of the race will be provided to registered participants as soon as available.
Will the race be held if it's raining?
The race is a "rain or shine" event. All participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, such as in a rain coat or hat. Umbrellas can pose a safety hazard to others and are not permitted.
Can I transfer my entry to someone else?
We have a strict NO TRANSFER policy.
Where do I park?
Complimentary parking is available on site in parking lots 4 and 5 beginning at 5:00 p.m.
