Mean & Green 5 Mile

8:00AM EST - 10:30AM EST

8:00AM EST - 10:30AM EST
Holloway Park Cross Country Course
2402 Holloway Park Dr
Lakeland, FL US 33803

This race is held by the Lakeland Runners Club, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to promote running and fitness for people of all ages and abilities in the community.

The Mean & Green 5 Mile Trail Race will be held on the grass and dirt trails at Holloway Park, a private park in the middle of Lakeland with elite quality cross country courses. This event will be low-key and environmentally friendly. We're going retro with no finisher medals, and awards for male and female overall, masters and grandmasters only. If you will need water for a 5-mile race, please bring your own bottle.  Due to COVID-19, bottled water will be provided at the end of the race only.  With your help, we can host an event with minimal trash going to the landfill. For your effort, you'll receive a snack and a 50/50 blend long sleeve unisex T.

The race will be chip timed.

Our Safety Protocol
Holloway has an expansive start area, which allows 40 runners, socially distanced, to start together.  Runners will be assigned to a specific wave, and for results to be accurate, runners must start with their assigned wave. There will be a very short delay between waves. Everyone must be prepared to start at 8:00 AM. Signs and volunteers will assist you on race day to line up in your wave staging area.

This event expands the LRC lineup of races to include trail running and will be held during Florida’s cool season.  The Mean & Green 5 Mile Trail Race supports Holloway Park and cross country running in Polk County.

The first Mean & Green 5-Mile race was held on January 18, 2020.

Restrictions - Safety is our first priority!

For everyone’s safety – NO strollers, bicycles, roller skates, in-line skates, and dogs will be allowed on the course.  The use of headphones is discouraged.

Walker Friendly Events
Our mission is to promote running and fitness to runners of all ages and abilities in the community through fellowship, education, and formal & informal running events. Walkers are encouraged to participate in all races.

Children Under 12 (runners OR walkers)
For their safety, children under 12 are strongly discouraged from lining up with the elite runners at the start line.

Managing Your Registration

To provide the safest races of the highest integrity, the Lakeland Runners Club offers race number transfers.

There are no refunds for this race. If you can't make the race, please initiate a registration transfer instead of just giving your bib to someone else. Giving someone a bib registered in your name creates inaccurate race results and can prevent registered and deserving individuals from being properly recognized in their age group, and creates a risk in the case of emergency when EMS is not able to identify the person by their race number.

You may transfer your registration to another runner (officially give it to someone else) under Manage Your Registration within a specific date range. The LRC is not responsible for identifying individuals for the exchange.

It's fun to have friends or family join you in an event - please remember everyone needs to Pay to Play.  Participants without bibs are called bandits and in case of an emergency, unregistered runners may not be able to be identified. Bandits take resources designated for those who have trained, paid the entry fee, and earned the right to participate:i.e. parking spaces, port-o-johns, space on the course, medals and finish line amenities. Everyone around you at a race should have a race number (bib).

Recommendations for Youth Participants from the RRCA

Running in a kid’s fun run or youth track event can be a great experience for kids. For children 5 and under focus on “dash” events that range from a few yards to 400 meters. For children 5 and over, kids fun runs that are a ½ to 1 mile long may be considered, but allow for a combination of running and walking. Children ages 12 and over may want to participate in a 5K run. Children ages 15 and older may want to participate in a 10K to half marathon event. Children 18 and older may want to participate in a marathon or further distance. These are general guidelines and the distance a child can physically and emotionally tolerate will depend on the individual, however, longer distances (10K and over) should wait until after puberty.

Founded in 1958, the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) is the oldest and largest national association of runners and running organizations dedicated to growing the sport of running. The RRCA uses the term “running” to encompass the broad spectrum of “running” in the US, including competitive running, jogging, fitness walking, race walking, and wheelchair fitness/racing on roads, trails, and tracks.

Cancellation and Weather Advisory

The safety of our participants is our highest priority. The LRC works closely with local city officials to plan and stay up-to-date.

Races will be held rain or shine and will not be canceled except for cases of severe weather or unsafe road/trail conditions. Less threatening conditions may cause alterations of the course or post-event activities to ensure participant, volunteer, and community safety.

Heat Advisory
It is possible to experience unseasonably warm weather at this event. If you are not heat-acclimated or are prone to heat illness, be conservative with your pace as to not overextend yourself. This may not be the event to attempt your personal best. Slow down at any signs of heat illness, including dizziness, light-headedness or nausea.
