Description
Imagine the thrill of hundreds of runners and walkers taking off on a scenic coastal course, united by a mission to empower the next generation. That's the magic of the 3rd Annual Salty Sands Run/Walk, taking place on April 20th at North Beach in Fort Desoto Park.
This year, we're not just racing for the finish line – we're fueling brighter futures for underprivileged St. Petersburg students. Your participation will directly support the Rotary Club's "Rotary Gives Backpacks" program, providing essential back-to-school supplies and lighting the path to success for local children.
Participants can choose from a 5k, 10k, 1 mile kids race and 1 mile fun/run walk, so there is a distance for everyone and every ability. Racers in the 5k, 10k and 1 mile kids race will receive a bib, Salty Sands t-shirt and a participant medal, while the 1 mile fun run/walk will receive a t-shirt.
Race Day Schedule:
6:30 - 7:30 am - Registration and Packet Pick Up at Start/Finisher area in North Beach
7:00am - Road into North Beach is closed
7:15 am - Welcome and Island Belles singing of the National Anthem
7:20 am - 10k Race Start
7:30 am - 5k Race Start
7:40 am - 1 mile Kids Race and 1 mile fun/run walk
8:20 am - Kids Race Award
8:40 am - 5k Awards
8:50am - 10k Awards
9:00am - Road into North Beach re-opens
Awards - Top 3 overall in each race and each age group (10 year age brackets) will be awarded top finisher medals.

From I-275 take Exit 17 onto Pinellas Bayway West and after 2.8 miles turn left at the traffic light onto State Highway 679 (also called Pinellas Bayway South). Continue to follow this road south for ~6 miles until you reach the Fort Desoto Park Entrance Gate. After the entry gate, continue straight until you reach a T-stop, turn right onto Anderson Avenue and then follow the road for ~3 miles. There will be race signs and signs for North Beach. The parking lot will be on your left hand side and there is ample parking in the parks enormous parking lots.
Parking
Race day parking is in the parking lots at North Beach and their are ample parking spots located. IMPORTANT: All participants, volunteers and spectators must be into the parking lots at North Beach by 7:00am. The road into and out of the park will be closed by police at 7:00 am and remain closed for the duration of the event (9:00am). This is done in accordance with park rules to ensure the utmost safety of participants.
Parking Info: There is a $5 fee for parking in Fort Desoto. This fee can be paid at the pay stations in the park or park patrons may now use their mobile phones to make convenient parking payments using the Flowbird mobile parking app (https://flowbirdapp.com/app/ ). This upgrade replaces cash transactions at the front entrance booth at Fort De Soto and alleviate traffic entering the park. Course Map - 5k loop, 10k will complete the loop twice
The course is a flat, scenic loop that begins at North Beach, wraps its way south, through Arrowhead picnic area then crosses the road and returns to the Start/Finish line. The 10K will be two loops of the course. Both the 5k and 10k races will be professionally timed with individual bibs/chips. The 1 mile Fun Run/Walk will not be individually timed.
