The situation around the current spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is changing rapidly, so make sure you stay informed by visiting the CDC's information page regularly. We care deeply about the well-being of our community, and we urge everyone to follow best practices to stay safe and healthy during this time.
What is FOKWC doing to combat COVID-19 at the 20th Annual Walk with a Friend event?
We will continue to follow CURRENT CDC recommendations for combating coronavirus. As updates to protocol are recommended, we will provide additional information. This includes making the following special accommodations for spring walk:
Hand sanitizer stations available across the Walk site
Additional hand washing stations available
Single serve everything
Sanitizing wipes available to cleanse credit card readers/phones at registration
Serving gloves for all volunteers handing out food or beverages
Will FOKWC cancel the Walk in April?
The health and safety of our participants, sponsors, volunteers and staff is our top concern. Currently, we are not cancelling spring Walk, in line with current CDC recommendations. We’ve communicated with other nonprofit peer-to-peer event leaders to ensure our policies are aligned. If CDC recommendations change, we will continue to adjust our spring plans. Stay tuned to our social media channels, the Walk website and to emails for any event changes.
Can I still fundraise if I don’t attend the FOKWC Walk event?
Yes! While attending Walk is the best way to celebrate together, we understand you may not feel comfortable attending, but you can still fundraise to help fund our important work. The great news -- online fundraising is the quickest, easiest way to fundraise without ever leaving home! Check out these tips to maximize your online fundraising:
“Start a Facebook fundraiser” Make sure you invite your Facebook friends to your fundraiser and reshare often!
Virtual Walk – share your pictures and story so everyone knows why you support FOKWC. Sharing your story is a big indicator of fundraising success, so make sure to tag Friends Walk Event Page on social media and email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Get creative! We know you may need to change your fundraising plans, but now is a great time to be creative with how you’ll hit your goal.
