Description

Tajay Hoppines was a Varsity soccer player and runner for Mill Creek High School from 2008-2012.  During his time at Mill Creek, he helped both programs to success at the Region and State level.  In 2011, he helped the Cross Country team win their first ever Region Championship, and then a week later, helped them to place 2nd at State, the first State trophy in program history.  In 2012, he helped the soccer program reach the State quarterfinals, which, at the time, the best finish in program history.  Both programs went on to even greater success (cross country - state champions in 2012, soccer - state runner up in 2014), that Tajay, no doubt, helped contribute to by his example.  Tragically, Tajay died in the fall of 2012, after drowning during a team camp at Valdosta State, where he had earned a scholarship to run.  However, the example he set and ways he improved both programs continue to have lasting effects.  Tajay always gave his best effort, even when he wasn't feeling great.  He also always kept a positive attitude, and that was contagious with his teammates.  His competitive spirit, and determination to never give up will always exemplify what both teams strive for.  His legacy lives on in both programs.

The 4th Annual Mill Creek Soccer and Cross Country - Run for Tajay will be held on Saturday, December 16th, 2017.  This race is a trail run behind Osborne Middle School and Mill Creek High School.  All proceeds from this event will be used to provide select graduating seniors in our soccer and cross country programs with college scholarships through the Tajay Hoppines Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Medals for the race will be given to the top male and female runners in the following age group categories:  Under 10, 10-12, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and Over 50.  Additionally, trophies will be awarded to the top male and top female finishers. In order to guarantee a race shirt, you must register by 12/5. Don't miss out on this event for the entire family!
