While there is still uncertainty about public health and mass participation sports, given the remote location and the limited number of entrants, we are expecting to be able to manage a safe event. We have provided an operations plan that entails social distancing, a staggered start, additional cleaning resources, and no pre- or post-race social activities and the Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Tusayan, the Kaibab National Forest, and the Tusayan Fire Department have confirmed their approval of an in-person event. Over the coming weeks, we will be in communication with the appropriate regional permitting agencies and we'll provide additional communication with race participants via email and the various race pages.
We will need your help, though. For those planning on doing the event in person, all participants must agree to the posted and announced race protocols:
You agree to a temperature check before starting the race; if your temperature is above 100 degrees, you will not be allowed to start.
You agree that participants will not congregate near other participants, volunteers and organizers, spectators, or one another.
You agree to start in a pre-assigned corral at a pre-assigned time, at the discretion of the race organizers.
You agree to be socially distant until it is your time to start, staying at least 6 feet from people you don't live with.
You agree to wear a face covering during all pre-race activities and all post-race activities.
You agree that when on the race course, you will wear a face covering when passing and being passed.
You will agree to wear a face covering after crossing the finish line and while in the staging area.
You will agree that after the race you will not congregate near other participants, volunteers and organizers, or one another.
You agree to bring your own pre-race and during-race hydration and nutrition.
You agree to provide your own post-race hydration and nutrition. If receiving medical care, you will agree to wear a face covering and follow the medical professional's conditions for treatment.
You agree that guests will not be invited to congregate at the start or finish line staging area.
You agree that guests will follow standard social-distancing and face-covering protocols when at alternate locations or elsewhere on the race course.
Most importantly, you agree to not attend the event if you display symptoms such as fever, coughing, sore throat, over-all fatigue, and other standard symptoms of those exposed to COVID-19, and you agree to not attend if you are sick with or have recently tested positive for COVID-19, or if you were recently (within 14 days) exposed to COVID-19.
