New Date: June 12th 2021
We wanted to wait as long as we could to see if the situation changed from where we were in April. As everyone knows the stay at home order has been extended and with the uncertainty of how safe this would be for our participants and our volunteers. The Post has decided to cancel this event for the 2020, but it will return next year. We will plan for a June 12th event. I hope everyone understands that we greatly appreciate the support of our participants and sponsors and we will be in contact via your registration email with details on next steps. We will offer the options of carrying over your registration to our new date in 2021, converting your registration to a donation to the post, or we can provide a refund of the registration fee / sponsorship fee.
Stay safe, stay healthy, see you soon.
A Salute to Service 5k is an event hosted by American Legion Batavia Post 504. It will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2020, just before Flag Day. This is a great way to honor the service of someone from your family. It will consist of a “fun run” a shorter military cadence style run that will start at 8am followed by a timed 5k run/walk at 8:30am.
Help us to celebrate 100 Years of The American Legion. Veterans helping veterans and the community. Money raised will be used to support our post and it’s activities. You have most likely seen us out in the community distributing poppies during Poppy Day near Memorial Day and Veterans Day, at a flag raising, preforming Military Rites at a funeral, placing flags at the graves of veterans, delivering gift bags at Christmas for our elderly veterans in the retirement communities around town, or presenting a scholarship to one of our deserving high school graduates. None of which we can do without your support.
Why do a run? Well, to get YOU involved. Show your pride in our community, country, or for a veteran near and dear to your heart. For many of our veterans, physical training (aka PT) is a big part of everyday life, particularly during initial training, but often throughout their time in the military. Running is a great way to measure physical fitness and endurance and group cadence runs also help to build a sense of team. The cadence not only sets the pace, but helps runners learn to control their breathing, and the words in the cadence are often meant to help motivate the group. Our cadence during the fun run will be cleaned up around the edges but still have that feel. It will be a little throwback for those that have served and a unique run for those who support us.
Cost to register for the 5k is $35. All registered runners are invited to participate in the fun run. The fun run is open to non-registered runners that sign a participation waiver and those participants will be asked to make a donation.
Ask me about how to convert your Registration fee into a new annual membership with American Legion Batavia Post 504 if you are an eligible veteran. If you are not sure if you are eligible, ask one of our members.
