Description

Join us for 11 years of Panting for Paws!

Last year was a blast as we celebrated 10 years with the community...running, walking, and even panting! We are always so grateful for the support we've received year after year and look forward to each years' event getting bigger and better. We even won the acclaimed 2017 Best of the Fox Readers' Choice award for Best Shelter in McHenry County...that's seven years in a row!

So, we're ready to have you join us again at this "pawsome" event! Dust off your running and walking shoes and register today! Feeling competitive and want to run/walk the 5K? Your race will be timed and you'll be able to enjoy a free post-race beer after the event (participants only who are 21+), courtesy of Bulldog Ale House of McHenry. There will also be snacks and light refreshments for all to enjoy! All fitness levels and ages welcome.

Don't feel like racing the full 5k? Sign-up for the 1 Mile Family Run/Walk and enjoy all the awesome perks, including a long sleeve performance shirt this year!

Each registration includes:

  • Limited edition Panting for Paws long sleeve performance shirt
  • Drawstring backsack with goodies
  • Free post-race beer provided by Bulldog Ale House-McHenry following the race
  • Complimentary snacks and refreshments, including coffee and water
  • CARA-certified timed race

Online registration is open until November 2, 2017.

NOTE: Due to the size of the 5K race and safety of all participants, strollers and dogs are not allowed on the course. You can participate in the 1 Mile Family Run/Walk with strollers and/or dogs who are people- and dog-friendly. We will also have some sponsors at the event and a raffle for all to participate in.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 this year to help care for the animals in our shelter, so the more registrations and donations received the closer we get to our goal! Helping Paws' mission for more than 48 years has been to provide shelter, food, medical care and comfort to the animals in our care until they are placed into loving, responsible homes. It costs a lot to keep the shelter running and we can only do it with the help of generous individuals and businesses who donate year round to support the animals' welfare. 100% of all net proceeds benefit the animals in our care, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors. Thank you so much for your support!

The race course for the 5K is CARA certified and professionally timed. Medals will be awarded to top male and female finisher overall, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each age group. Age groups: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-70, 70-79, 80 & over.

New This Year!

Well-behaved and socialized dogs who are 6 months and older are welcome to participate in the 1 Mile Family Run/Walk. Strollers are also welcome. This event is not "timed", but we require everyone to be off the course within 30 minutes.

IMPORTANT: Dogs must be on leash at all times and have rabies tags on their collar the day of the event. No retractable leashes or leashes longer than 6 feet. Pet owners must take full responsibility for the behavior of their pet and are also responsible for cleaning up after their dog(s) at all times. Disposable waste bags will be available at the event. We also reserve the right to refuse entry or request that a dog be removed from the course if we feel it might prove hazardous to others or whose physical condition appears to be compromised.

Following the 5K, there will be post-race refreshments and awards ceremony. Everyone can also visit with sponsors and vendors, as well as some of our adoptable dogs.

Thank you for your support and for making a difference in the lives of the homeless animals who are waiting for their forever homes!

If you cannot participate in the run/walk, we invite you to register for the Virtual 5K or make a general donation to help us save more animals and help give them a second chance.
