Description

THE PR MILE race is just what the name says, a ONE MILE, chip timed race with quarter mile splits on a unique, slowly descending, USTAF certified course that whould allow you to run your fastest, PERSONAL RECORD mile- ever!

Let's not kid ourselves, it is all about speed.  Whether your preferred distance is a 5K or a marathon, we all really want to know how fast we can run a single mile.  Most of us have probably run mile repeats on the track for training.  This is totally different-not even close.  We are offering you the rare opportunity to run just a single mile-all out...as fast as your legs and lungs will allow!

More than that, you will be competing with your peers in our unique wave format.

Here is how we designed the race:

We will be running 10 year age group waves every 7 minutes.  However, if you are an elite ( or just think you are), you can sign up for our "elite" wave.  Every 7 minutes, beginning with age 70+ men and women, the clocks will be reset and the gun will go off.  Is beer drinking your activity of choice?  If so, don't be ashamed.  Prove your beer drinking worth and sign up for the wave that has the most fun, THE BEER MILE!

Eventually, we will work our way down to the elite wave and then the grand finale wave, THE BEER MILE!  After the racing is over it will be time to celebrate everyone's PR performances with a beer (or another beer) and BBQ Bash hosted by the best BBQ place in the Midwest, Chuck's Southern Comfort!

Does it get any better than this?  Yes, it does.  In my mind, as a veteran runner and racer, price should be relative to distance so all this for the low, low price of $24.95!!!  For an even better deal, if you sign up for the PR Mile, you can also sign up for our sister race, The Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10, and get a discount for both races!  Sweet!!!

AWARDS:

Nothing bothers your two race directors, John and Tiffany, more than when we run a race good enough to be eligble for an award and get BUPKIS, NADA, ZILCH!!!  What the heck; we train hard for weeks (enduring snide family remarks and getting up before the sun rises), employ a smart race strategy, experience extreme discomfort (legs, lungs, bowels) and all we get is the satisfaction of beating others.  Not here at THE PR MILE!  We are offering quality awards to the top 3 female and male finishers in each and every WAVE.  No cheap crappy medals either.  We want you to have something special to honor your achievement of running your fastest mile.  You will be proud to display your PR MILE award to your other, less fortunate friends and family for them to admire and be jealous of.

RULES, RULES, RULES!

1. Each competitor drinks four cans of beer and runs four laps, ideally on a track (start - beer, then lap, then beer, then lap, then beer, then lap - finish).
2. Beer must be consumed before the lap is begun, within the transition area which is the 10 meter zone before the start/finish line on a 400m track.
3. The race begins with the drinking of the first beer in the last meter of the transition zone to ensure the comptitors run a complete mile (1609 meters).
4. Women also drink four beers in four laps (past rule lists only required ladies to drink three beers).
5. Competitors must drink canned beer and the cans should not be less than 355ml (the standard can volume) or 12oz (the imperial equivalent). Bottles may be substituted for cans as long as they are at least 12 oz (355 ml) in volume.
6. No specialized cans or bottles may be used that give an advantage by allowing the beer to pour at a faster rate. ie "super mega mouth cans" or "wide mouth bottles" are prohibited.
7. Beer cans must not be tampered with in any manner, ie. no shotgunning or puncturing of the can except for opening the can by the tab at the top. The same applies with bottles - no straws or other aids are allowed in order to aid in the speed of pouring.
8. Beer must be a minimum of 5% alcohol by volume. Hard ciders and lemonades will not suffice. The beer must be a fermented alcoholic beverage brewed from malted cereal grains and flavored with hops. For an abbreviated list of valid beers and exceptions, click here.
9. Each beer can must not be opened until the competitor enters the transition zone on each lap.
10. Competitors who vomit before they finish the race must complete one penalty lap at the end of the race (immediately after the completion of their 4th lap). Note: Vomitting more than once during the race still requires only one penalty lap at the end. * It is strongly recommended, when attempting official records, to tip the empty beer can or bottle over your head at the end of a chug to verify an empty vessel.
