FAQ for Virtual Races

What is a virtual race?

A virtual race can be run or walked or biked anytime and anywhere, even on a treadmill! Participants track their own time and or distance, earn medals and raise money for charity.

How does a virtual race work?
Simply register, complete the distance, then report to us how many miles you moved.

How will I get my swag bag (shirt, medal, and other goodies)?
We will have at least 1 drive through packet pickup during the event. We are working on location and time details, and we will be sure to get that information to you. If you are unable to get your packet during that time, other arrangements will be made.

How do I track my distance and time my movement?
You will be able to register your results in Run Sign Up. We take results on the honor system, so track your movement distances however you like.  Some use fitness or smart watches or one of the multiple free apps for tracking distances.  Popular phone apps include Map My Run, Strava and Run Keeper.

When will I get my shirt, bib and medal?
Once you register, a virtual bib will be sent to you to print.

Race shirts, commemorative bibs and medals will be available at packet pickup on April 17th (location and time details are still being confirmed).

Can I walk or bike or swim my miles?

You can run, walk, bike, swim, row, or even skip your miles! We are all about movement! Set your goal and keep working towards it.

Do I need to show proof that I completed my move miles?

No, we trust you! Our event isn’t just about moving the miles, its about raising awareness that child abuse happens here in our hometowns and that each child deserves the very best medical care in a setting where healing can begin.

What if I can’t complete my run during the race period?

Life happens. We get it!

Feel free to submit your results even after the event so that we can add them to our 2021 total miles.

How will I get tax credit for my donation?

  • Your race registration is considered non-gift and is not tax deductible.
  • If you choose to donate your event shirt during registration, you will receive a $7.50 gift credit for your donation.
  • For all gift donations, you will receive a confirmation of donation receipt letter from the University of Illinois Foundation after the close of the Kick Abuse 2021 event.
