Rockford MeltFest "Hammy Hustle" 5K

This message is to update you on the status of the MeltFest “Hammy Hustle” 5K.  I have provided a quick summary up top with more details provided underneath (if they help).  Please read and let me know if you have any questions. 

QUICK SUMMARY:

• Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the 2020 MeltFest “Hammy Hustle” 5K is unfortunately canceled.
• Shirts and finisher medals will be available for pick up as follows (all times/dates listed will be @ FleetFeet Rockford). Please note, these listings differ from the original packet pick-up times, and they may need to change depending on future quarantine restrictions ***. If necessary, we will update these dates and times.
  • Thursday 3.19.20 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
  • Friday 3.20.20 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday 3.21.20 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
• Other Stuff.  Prairie Street Brewing, Co. has agreed to allow your “beverage ticket” to be redeemed at any point prior to April 30th, 2020.  In addition, the Rockford IceHogs are providing a voucher that can be redeemed for a seat at an October/November 2020 IceHogs game.
• Virtual/self-directed run.  The goal of MeltFest was always to get people out and about.  We would love for you to snap a picture of yourselves running or walking a virtual/self-directed 5K and email pictures to info@meltfest.com.  Wear your medal, shirt, grab your group – or do something else silly and fun.  On March 31st, we will upload the photos to the MeltFest Facebook page with myself and other MeltFest volunteers, selecting the top 100+ photos (loosely sorted by age/gender) and notifying winners that they can lay claim to a free MeltFest drinking glass (the age group awards).  Pick-up details for these awards to be provided at a later date.  While we’re all bummed about missing the fun together on March 21, let’s try to make the most of this situation. Hopefully, all the fun pictures we will be able to post will bring a little cheer to the Facebook world.
• Kids Run.  Similar to the virtual run.  If you had any kiddos that were planning to do the kids run, let us know when you pick up your shirt and medal and we will provide you with a kid award that you can give out at home.
• Thank you for your support of this event. This year’s event was on track to be the largest number of registrants we would have ever had. We so appreciate you and your involvement in this event. Because of you all, we are still going to be able to donate $2,500 to local not-for-profit, NAMI Northern Illinois. 

ADDED DETAILS: As stated above, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the unique impact it continues to pose to our community, we are unfortunately have to cancel the 2020 MeltFest “Hammy Hustle” 5K (and other MeltFest activities).  This is a difficult message for me to send, but based upon the recent restrictions and recommendations imposed by the City of Rockford, Winnebago County Health Department, and Illinois Governor, J.B. Pritzker, it is a decision that has to be made. 

*** NOTE:  If you have any signs of illness, are elderly, have a compromised immune system, or just do not feel like coming out, please do not pick-up your items during the listed times.  We will keep a list of those that do not pick-up and find a way to get you your items at a later date.
