Description

Hello, my name is Heather Blaney, and I am a Junior at Westmont High School. When I first heard about the brutal reality of human trafficking, I felt inspired to raise awareness about the issue. I decided to take an elective at my school called Changemakers, and made it my yearlong project to organize a conference on human trafficking. The panel included members of the FBI and a human trafficking survivor.

The following year, I felt a calling to continue fighting for this cause. I am now organizing a 5K Color Run for my new Changemakers' project. This Walk/Run is called The Color Stomp because my goal is to "stomp out" human trafficking and shed light on this dark issue, which affects 27 million people across the globe. The proceeds of the race will help Reclaim13 open Cherish House. Cherish House is an envisioned long-term, trauma-informed, residential treatment facility dedicated to giving girls who are rescued victims of child sex trafficking a place of love, support, and emotional healing.

The Color Stomp will take place on May 17, 2015, at the Ty Warner Park. Registration will be from 7:30-8:45 a.m. and the race will start at 9 a.m. A survivor will share her testimony at the opening ceremony and there will be DJ entertainment after the race.

In an industry that is so dehumanizing and rapidly growing, it is difficult to have hope. However, it's beautiful what can happen when people come together to fight for a common cause. By coming, you are agreeing to not stand by or remain silent as this modern day form of slavery continues to plague our country. Be a voice for those who don't have one!

Show your support and experience the joy and excitement of what a Color Run brings by registering at www.signmeup.com/105916 or by donating to my GoFundMe campaign.  This is a unique 5K race that you don't want to miss!
