The McHenry County Human Race, hosted annually by the Volunteer Center McHenry County, has been cancelled based upon County and State recommendations and an over-abundance of concern for the health of our community.
The event scheduled for April 26, has over 70 nonprofit organizations registered as beneficiaries of the race participants fundraising efforts. Although the race itself won’t happen, community members are still encouraged to donate on the event page in support of local nonprofits and can even set up a fundraising page to support their charity of choice.
“The environment Covid-19 has created will impact our nonprofits greatly; many of which provide services to vulnerable populations within our community. In the coming weeks and months they will face the challenges of closed programs, cancelled fundraisers and a minimized work force,” said Rebecca Stiemke, Executive Director for Volunteer Center McHenry County. “It’s important that we still take the time to rally around our nonprofit community and support them by donating to their causes.”
The Human Race website will remain open until April 30 to receive donations. All fees and pledges collected will be distributed as originally intended. It is important to note, one hundred percent of any pledge made will be given directly to the nonprofit it was directed to.
