Description

Join us for the 21st Annual Maine Lighthouse Ride (MLR) on Saturday, September 7, 2024. True to its name, MLR highlights the breathtaking views of coastal southern Maine, including multiple lighthouses, rolling terrain, and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the iconic Scarborough Marsh. MLR offers four ride lengths to challenge riders of all abilities – 25 miles, 40 miles, 62 miles, and 100 miles!

This ride benefits the Eastern Trail Alliance, a nonprofit organization that builds, maintains, and promotes the Eastern Trail, southern Maine’s premiere multi-use greenway. ETA members use discount code Member2024 to save 10% off registration! Your registration fee includes the ride, well-stocked rest stops with pickles, PB&Js, and more, and post-ride festivities including a meal and two beers. Riders who register before July 1 will receive a FREE t-shirt.

Ride Terrain

For a more detailed description of each route, click the rides here: 25 mile route, 40 mile route, 62 mile route, 100 mile route.

Note most routes (with the exception of the 25-mile route which does not cross the gravel section) will encounter a variety of surfaces including a narrow off-road paved pathway, a 3-mile packed gravel section (traversed twice), and paved public roads open to traffic. Use caution at all times. It’s a ride, not a race. The gravel surface is suitable for road bikes; adjust your speed accordingly.

Ride Venue and Packet Pick Up

All rides start and finish at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC), 2 Fort Rd, South Portland, ME 04106. Ample parking is available for riders and others.

Rider Packets may be picked up from the ride venue on Friday, September 6 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm or Saturday, September 7 from 6:00 am - 8:00 am. RIDERS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO PICK UP ON FRIDAY. Your packet will include a bib number, pins, your meal ticket and beer bracelet, plus a t-shirt and/or hoodie, if previously purchased or received as a giveaway. We do not provide printed route maps or cue sheets. Ride with GPS routes and cue sheets will be available to download as the ride approaches.

Donations and Fundraising

You are not required to fundraise or provide a donation to the Eastern Trail to participate in the Maine Lighthouse Ride.   You are responsible only for the registration fee.   However, as the largest fundraiser in support of the Eastern Trail Alliance, we challenge riders to collect pledges to help support the Eastern Trail and/or make an additional donation during the registration process.

New this year, you can fundraise to cover your registration fee! Choose "Become a Fundraiser" during registration and then rally your friends and family members to support your participation and a great cause.
