Battle Creek Half Marathon and 5k

Registration for the virtual event closes earlier than the in-person event to allow time for shipping race packets. Packets for virtual participants will be mailed out one week prior to the event. Participants may run their virtual event anytime between July 2 - July 10, 2021. An email will be sent to virtual participants explaining how to report their time (optional). Virtual participants will also be encouraged to submit run photos via email and/or social media outlets. When posting event photos tag us with #runBC2022

Why does the virtual event cost as much as the in-person event?

We realize that over the past year you may have participated in many virtual events that were less expensive. Cereal City Athletics is a small business, and our events are the product that we provide to the community. Just as you may pay a bit more to shop local rather than order something online, you may pay a bit more to support a local event. Because we do not order in bulk, like many of the virtual events, our costs are higher. Regardless of whether you are in-person or virtual, we have expenses to provide you with a quality event. Virtual participants get all of the same swag that in-person participants will as well. As a bonus for our virtual participants, we are shipping participant packets at no additional cost to you. 

Half Marathon:

Beginning at the brewing facility for Territorial Brewing Company, runners will make their way to the Field of Flight where they will run the runways while watching balloons launch (weather permitting) and get an up close view of the Field of Flight attractions. Runners will exit the grounds and run the streets and boulevards of Battle Creek before finishing back right where they started. The time limit for completing the half marathon course is 3 and 1/2 hours, or 16 min/mile average pace. 

5K:

Beginning at the brewing facility for Territorial Brewing Company, runners will make their way to the Field of Flight where they will run the runways while watching balloons launch (weather permitting) and get an up close view of the Field of Flight attractions before heading back right where they started to the finish.

Breakfast and Brews is an optional add-on for participants and all spectators. When registering, add the number of tickets you need for the event. Tickets for Breakfast and Brews are $10 each and include a breakfast scramble, two pancakes, a breakfast meat and a short glass of a specialty Territorial Brewing Company beer. Proof of age will be needed to receive alcoholic beverages.

We will once again be offering an early packet pick-up to participants that want to skip the line on Saturday morning. Early packet pick-up will be Thursday, 6/29 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Territorial Brewing Company (1600 Avenue A, Springfield, MI 49037) in the lower lot. Packets will only be available at this location at the times listed above. The restaurant will not have participant packets before or after the scheduled times for early packet pick-up.

Please note: THIS IS NOT THE LOCATION OF THE START/FINISH. The actual event on July 1 will start at the brewing facility (2815 6th Ave, Springfield, MI 49037), not the restaurant. 

It is our goal to provide our community of runners with a safe experience, but also to provide everyone with a race day experience that meets their comfort level. We recognize that there may be reasons to decide to not participate in the in-person event and vice versa. Participants may transfer from in-person to virtual, or virtual to in-person at any time, for any reason, up to the close of registration for the virtual event. 

If training has not quite gone as planned, or you decided to amp up your mileage, participants may transfer from the 5k to the half marathon (for an additional fee) or transfer from the half marathon to the 5k (the difference in registration cost will not be refunded) at any time up until the close of registration. 

Participants may also transfer their registration to another runner up until the close of registration. Please note, giving your bib to another runner without properly going through the transfer process is NOT allowed for many reasons, including for liability purposes.

We are aware that an in-person event is not a guarantee. There are many factors that may result in an in-person event including, but not limited to; state and/or local health guidelines, event partners' ability to host participants, etc. In the event that an in-person event is unable to occur, all participants will automatically be transferred to the virtual event. Information about this will be clearly communicated to participants as timely as possible. There will be no event refunds. 

We are excited to announce our 2022 charity partner will once again be Talons Out Honor Flight! Talons Out Honor Flight, the SW Michigan Chapter of Honor Flight Michigan, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam Era and terminally ill Veterans in and around Southwest Michigan to Washington, D.C. (at no charge to the Vets) to visit their memorial.
