Rock The Quarry Trail Challenge 5k & Kid's Fun Run

September 11th, 2021 Black Mountain, NC 28711 US Directions
Postponed until September 11th, 2021

New Date: September 11th, 2021

We're disappointed to announce that we're going to have to postpone the 13th annual Rock the Quarry Trail Challenge 5K until September 11th, 2021. Rock the Quarry is all about bringing the community together and with the COVID-19 situation, we don't feel that we can safely accomplish that. We are still looking at ways to support the Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth & Families & the Asheville Museum of Science this year, so stay tuned! Thank you for supporting the race and we look forward to seeing everyone next year!

Locally owned and operated Grove Stone & Sand Company is proud to host the 13th annual Rock the Quarry Trail Challenge 5K and Kids Fun Run in the heart of the Swannanoa Valley. Rock the Quarry 5K Challenge is a foot race with a mission to bring our community together to celebrate good health in our beautiful surroundings while supporting our neighbors. All proceeds from the event benefit Grove Stone’s neighbor, the Black Mountain Home for Children, and long-time partner, Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS).

Boasting some of the best views in all of Western North Carolina, this challenging course combines scenic views, private trails, multiple stream-crossings, and a ½ mile span through Grove Stone’s active quarry.

We’re going to bring everyone around to the BACK entrance at Grove Stone off of Lake Eden Road in Black Mountain (same road as Owen High School & Camp Rockmont). Take Lake Eden Road all the way until it dead-ends and the back gate to Grove Stone will be on the right. I’ll have some signs pointing you in the right direction. Turn left on the gravel road once you pass thru the gate and you’ll run right into the starting line. Park on the gravel road. Make sure you come around to the back gate at Grove Stone & Sand Co. at the end of Lake Eden Road, the front gate will be locked.

Rock the Quarry is excited to continue the Kids Fun Run (ages 10 and under). The Kids Fun Run ($5 per participant) is 1/4 of a mile – and, instead of a shirt, each participant will receive a "ROCK" headband! The Kids Fun Run will start at 9:15am before the 5K.

If you're able to select your shirt size during the registration process, you're guaranteed a shirt! There are limited quantities to people that register after the Sept 3rd shirt deadline. Feedback from last year’s race is that the RTQ shirt will be your new favorite running shirt! Shirt sizes are all uni-sex sizes this year. Instead of a shirt, participants in the Fun Run will receive a "ROCK" running headband.

Grove Stone & Sand Company (842 Old US Highway 70 entrance) at the scale house on Friday (9/13) from 4:30 – 6:00pm or you can pick up the packets the morning of the race from 7:30am – 9am (please come early!) in the picnic shed near the race starting line.

Trophies for top finishers for the 5K age/gender categories. CASH PRIZES to the 1st ($200), 2nd ($100), & 3rd ($50) place overall finishers. Masters Division (40 and over) overall male & female will receive a gift card from Vertical Runner in Black Mountain!

All participants will receive a Rock the Quarry T-Shirt (Shirts only guaranteed to runners that register on or before September 3rd).
