Due to the COVID-19 restrictions with gatherings we have decided to make this year's race a virtual race/challenge.
2019 we had over 125 5K runners and walkers register for this event and 30 Run for the Beads runners. The event is usually held on the SJPII Campus and travels through Belle Meade, but due to COVID Belle Meade is not an option. Angelo Lobsinger took top honors for being the overall Male runner Alessia Potts won the women’s competition.
A virtual race means that one can register and run the 5K or mile on any 5K or mile course anytime between February 6th and February 16th (Fat Tuesday! You will then be able to post your times on the web site.
But the great thing about a virtual event, you can register, get your t-shirt and do not even have to run!
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Athletic Department of St. John Paul II Catholic School in Southern Pines. The monies earned from the run have allowed the purchase of new soccer uniforms, new basketballs for the boys and girls as well as a few new volleyballs. Additionally, a portion of the money raised is being set aside for the construction of a workout running path from Kompan playground equipment.
T-shirts will be available for curbside pickup from 10 AM to 12, on Saturday 2/20/21 and Saturday 2/27/21 at 2922 Camp Easter Road, Southern Pines NC.
Send Pictures of your inner “King Rex” or Mardi Gras joker to firstname.lastname@example.org prior to Feb 16th (Fat Tuesday) for your chance to be awarded a King Cake from G. Charles Bakery on Fat Tuesday!
We hope to continue to encourage health and fitness among children, families and the entire community with our events and others like it throughout the year. Proceeds will go to St. John Paul II Catholic School to benefit its Athletic Department, which helps to benefit the physical education program, too. The goal of both of these programs is to establish and improve healthy lifestyles for our students and community at large.
