Hey Foxes and Hounds! Welcome back for the second annual Fox Chase Trail Race! And this time, the race is FREE!
Obviously things have changed a bit since our last run, and there is a lot of uncertainty in the running world about how to host events. So how are we going to pull it off? Read on and we think you'll like what this race has to offer. There will be 2 different waves for this event so everybody can come participate at their social distance comfort level. Here's how they break down:
The Quarantine Wave 5K: Show up anytime from 7:30am to 9:30am and run the course. There will be no big start corral. Start the run completely solo, or with a friend or two if you feel comfortable doing so. You can check in verbally with our race staff. There will be nothing to sign or touch. All runners during this time are required to wear a face covering in the wide open start area until they begin running. While on course the mask must be over your nose and mouth if you are within 6' of another person (so pull it up to pass someone and then pull it back down when you are clear). After the race, you can return to your car and head home. If you'd like to purchase a t-shirt, you can pay cash, or use a service such as Venmo or PayPal and the shirt and/or medal will be mailed to your home. Also, if you'd like to run more than 5K, you may run the course as many times as you like. Social distance running at it's finest!
The Second Wave 5K (pun intended): This wave will begin at 9:30am and will look like the kind of race you're used to before the world turned upside down. There will be a start corral and all runners will leave together. Face masks are encouraged, but not required. Runners are allowed to hang out after the race to talk shop, take pictures, etc. If you want a shirt and medal you can place your order and it will be sent to you by mail. And if 5K just isn't enough distance for you, feel free to run the course again!
How are we able to do all of this without worrying about viruses and cancellations and such? The answer is simple.
THIS RACE IS FREE. Yes, free. And by "free" we mean you don't have to pay any money. None. Nada. Zilch.
How are we hosting a free race? The 5K course is entirely on private land and the race will be entirely "self-supported," meaning you bring your own water and such on course. There is no free t-shirt, no bibs, no cash prizes, no official timing, no professional photos and no water stations. This is how you get a free race. You will still register for it, but your cost at checkout will be $0.00. If you decide on race day that you don't want to run, then don't. You lose no money, and we lose no money. There is no risk to signup, so you may as well sign up now!
If you do want a commemorative T-shirt and medal however, they will be available for purchase, but you are NOT REQUIRED TO BUY ANYTHING. The cost of the shirt will be $25 and the cost of the medal is $10. Or, buy both a shirt and a medal for a discounted price of $30. In order to get the right number, you can order one on race day and it will be mailed to your house. And we think you'll want to get one. The logo this year is pretty cool...
These are strange times, and everybody has to figure out how to adapt to all the changes that have happened in 2020. This is what we have to offer and we hope you enjoy the event. The race directors are runners, and we know that runners gotta run! This is the best way to get your running fix in the new world.
