The race series is proud to establish one of the most difficult and scenic road challenges in the southeast. This year we bring to you the 5th Annual Altamont Challenge. This course that is nestled in the foothills and based in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. The heart of the Foothills was originally home to several Indian tribes, including the Catawba, the Creek, and the Cherokee. Travelers Rest gained notoriety as a stopover for weary travelers and livestock drovers. Travelers Rest boasts a colorful history dating back to America's early years. You will have the opportunity to summit the top of Greenville County near Paris Mountain to look over the entire Upstate! This race will be scenic, fun, and rewarding to all finishers! Come and see if you can overcome the ultimate Altamont challenge!
This half marathon route is an out and back on one of the most scenic and difficult races in the Upstate. The race starts from Poinsett Park and runs down Frontage Road to Altamont Road. From there you will stay on the same road all the way to the CVS parking lot where the one and only aid station will be. Turn around and come right back!
There is one aid station at the turnaround point at 6.5 miles. The Aid station will include such items: salt, crackers, cookies, pickles, oranges, water , tailwind, and soda. This is a CUPLESS event as runners are required to have their own hydration carrying bottles or packs. Our aid station volunteers are not there to service your every need so be self reliant.
In an effort to be good stewards to mother nature we will not have any of the following items at ANY of our events. This is in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint being placed by endurance events throughout the world. Please have a cup or hydration bottle if you will need to consume water/nutrition during the event. Please bring your own fork/spoon for any post race meals.
